AR Cleaning

So i have watched a few youtube videos and it looks easy. But i do have some questions about reassembly of the extractor. Its says to make sure its lined up at the 11 oclock position. If its lined up correctly, you should be able to put the pin back without problem i am assuming. I guess i am a little fuzzy on this part. Please don't be mad at this question, trying to learn. What is a good way to make sure its in the proper position? or am i over thinking this.

I can take apart most any handgun, or bolt rifle as i have been a shooter for many years, just NEVER on the AR platform. Thought i never needed one, but when the MP15 went on sale at my LGS i bought it on a whim. Now just trying to learn it.

Acutally on all my rifles (pretty sure) if the bolt hole is facing the wrong way the cam pin won't even go in. I thought that was standard......maybe not?

This is kind of what i thought. Just that many of the videos keep saying, "make sure its at the 11 oclock position" Haven't pulled my BCG yet as my rifle is new, just got it.

Actually they mean when putting the bolt back into the bolt carrier group, make sure it is at the 11 o'clock position (like the picture shows). As others have said, on any AR I've ever handled the cam lock pin will only go in when it is in that position. The extractor can also be removed from the bolt for cleaning, but that is usually done every once in a while (depending on how much you shoot) and you will need to be sure not to lose the little extractor spring which is one of those "disappearing into the rug" parts.

OP, just do it, and you will find that it's much easier than you think. You're not gonna break anything. It can only go back together one way, which is the right way.

Hunter991, I just cleaned and lube for the fist time. It took me about 2 hours. I just watched the youtube videos and cleaned and oil the barrel bore, chamber and receiver, trigger hammer, and every part in the BGC.
