Are You Content?

In my younger years I hungered for a variety of guns. Managed to own many of them. Still have some of them. Over the past year I made several "too good to pass up" buys that, while I don't exactly regret them, I know I can be content without them. Ammo wise between loaded rounds and components I could shoot at 2 to 3 times my current rate for about 20 years, which I do not have, in all likelihood. So the current plan is to shoot up the ammo I have on hand in a given caliber and then sell the gun(s). In the end I expect to let my son dispose of a .38 or two, a few .22s and a 12 gauge. With that plan I am content.

I don't hunt so my only NEEDS are personal defense weapons for my wife and I . We have that covered along with a few range toys for fun . As I have gotten older I have thinned the herd considerably . If I was not able to ever buy another gun I would be just fine .

Are you content with your choices in firearms? If you could never purchase another firearm, do you have what you want/need?

Lastly, I have my beloved 1976 Browning Hi Power, one of the finest combat handguns ever produced, IMHO! I foolishly sold it but was able to get it back on trade a year later. Home defense/zombie apocalypse/concealed carry.
S&W 686 four inch and a BHP (great concealed carry) meets all my needs. So really, I did not need to buy any other guns in the last 40 years. Same thing with my hunting rifle and my Remington 870.

I have way more than I need and might buy a nice M31 if I find one at a decent price. I always wanted a Colt SAA but I’ve always been too cheap to pay the price so I’m no sure about that one. And like one person mentioned they’d like a selective fire M16 or MP5, I’d love an original full auto Thompson SMG, Chicago typewriter. There’s one available locally with stick mags, drum and extra furniture but at $30,000 I think I’ll pass. I’m just too cheap.

My wife and I have eliminated a few firearm we just don;t shot much and kids don't want . Other wise I a well seasoned hunter for 55 years and I have carried concealed for almost 39 years . My wife has her firearms she likes for carry needs and shots those handguns regularly with 30 years concealed carry. We still shot or AR's but not as often as in the past . My wife is not a meat hunter but is a crack shot when it comes to critter control for the 45 years years we have been married so we are good for the firearm future . Like STCM stated some don't get fired enough but those have history and will not leave . Getting old sucks !

Wife doesn't shoot, has no interest in guns. No kids to give them to and step kids don't want them. I will buy a concealed carry very soon and some form of A5 Browning without the Browning price premium, probably in 20 gauge since I already have 100 rounds picked up new for $25. I can buy anything I want for the first time in my close to 75 years, but space for storage is limited and she owns the Condo. I'm basically homeless (by design) if that is what she wants. Looking for a nice concealed carry, over 10 capacity 9MM, probably the new H&K, about the same size as the P7 I owned decades ago, probably the new CC9, but not in any hurry. I have my inherited 36 Chiefs special, just want more mag capacity. Might get something else if the price is great. 44 Mag Marlin stainless, 659 Smith for 9MM with 17 round mag (X2) for spray and pray. K frame Smiths for 38 and 22, youngest one is 1958, oldest is 1907. A nice air rifle and pistol if I want to practice in the garage and a few thousand rounds of ammo. I really need a way to write off my travel expenses, maybe play competitive pickleball in the 75 + age group. 4.4 cents a mile in fuel costs with a 60+ cent a mile deduction would cut my tax liability considerably but now it's less than 7% federal with the standard deduction.

I have all I need and want. That said my collection is dependent on what comes to the fore at any of the 5 LGS's, at a great price. I just won (in a drawing) a Berretta M84. I didn't and don't need it, I have plenty of .380's but, hey, it only cost me $40.00 in tickets. I'll find a use for it, or someone else could own it for the right $. Infact, for the right $ they could own most of my whole collection.

In my mid 70s, and I've owned and sold my fair share. I don't know that I will ever be content though I do have my core group of Berettas, SW, and Walthers. This week, I handled and bought a Walther PPS M2 that I have absolutely no use for but decided it needed a small, single stack 9.

I'm pretty happy with the ones I have and probably won't buy any more at my age.
This is pretty much my feeling. But a little while ago I walked into a gun shop on a whim and ended up buying a Model 41 (my 4th) that was set up for an optical sight. The shop made me an offer that was too good to pass up. And just by chance one of my other Model 41s broke down and is now in the shop. Right now the gun I just acquired is turning out to be the best shooter. Funny how things work out.

At my age, I'm all done. Haven't bought anything new since before COVID. The only way I'd entertain anything more would be if someone gifted me, or I got an offer I couldn't refuse, (Example. A mint Savage 99 in 30-06 for $150).

When I was a kid I had a list of guns I would own some day. At this point I’ve got all of them, with the exception of a 1928A-1 Thompson, plus lots more. If I could never buy another gun I could be very content with the large menagerie I have.

That said, I still have a few more I’d like to get. What I’m trying to do is focus on acquiring those guns, rather than buying something just because it’s a good deal. I’m also limiting my self to no more than five of the same gun. I really like the 4” Model 64ND, but I’ve got to draw a line somewhere.

NO! I still need a Holand and Holand 416rigby, A nice 16G sidelock and the S&W 1917 I let get away. :( D.A.! But as none of those are likely, so yup I'm fine. Haven't bought a gun in years. Truth be told at my age if I lost everything and had to buy again. I would be happy S&W 3-inch M63. Replace those god-awful handles and a H&R 20G youth with an adult stock.
