Are you going to purchase at 25% price hike

Tariff wars lead to unintended consequences. Many people have for years wanted to buy a Toyota Hilux. You know the truck, the one Top Gear tried to kil and couldn't. Well, they can't. At least not here. Why? Because Germany put tariffs on American chickens. I'm not kidding.
There's a YouTuber who does a great video on this. I can't link because of adult language. Go to YouTube and search for The Fat Files. Watch the video titled: The chicken conspiracy robbing Americans of the Toyota Hilux. Interesting stuff. Also he touches on why American trucks have gotten so big. Hint: It ain't because we have more stuff to haul these days.

I am not a Conservative...I'm an Ultra-Conservative. So understand where I'm coming from.

I'm also an old Curmudgeon, Codger and F*** (have flatulence)

IMHO, when an American buys a Toyota anything, they are part of the problem.

Mother, Apple Pie and Chevrolet.

For once my timing was good. I just bought a new truck a couple of weeks ago. It is a 24 but new. It is loaded. I stole it. saved thousands on all the goodies and no telling how much by getting in ahead this inevitable in crease. The blind squirrel found another acorn....

I picked up a 2024 Silverado 1500 custom crew cab 4x4. 2.7L standard bed for 38k

Not really sure what the point is with the guns and cars analogy?
There are lots of things other countries won't/don't import from us. I'm guessing China doesn't import American tea ( that was a joke). There are also many things the US doesn't need to import from others. My point is this is the start of a negotiation. The president today said every country on the list contacted his office today. He's playing hardball.

Including Heard Island, MacDonald Islands, and the Svalbard Archipelago? The Cocos (Keeling) Islands?

Politics.

Well , I can assure you I'm aware of way more than you give me credit for. Or that you give anyone credit for. It must be difficult to be the smartest guy in any room you enter. Left leaning people such as you will chirp about everything that is wrong with everything a conservative politician does. I can assure you there is not a corporation in the world that doesn't want their products in the most dynamic economy in the history of the world. But that doesn't fit your narrative.

Glad to see we've stayed with facts rather than personalities.

Re tariffs imposed today, truly foolish.

Not unexpected, of course. Let's all come back a year later and review how swell things are — or not — for our economy.

No need to argue about it. It has happened. Wait. And see.

Let's come back a year from now and discuss.

----

In the meantime while we wait, lets revisit all the mask and jab threads from 2020 and see how those panned out. :)

Well, here's a surprise - a hard-right legal group tied to Leonard Leo and the Koch brothers is suing to stop the tariffs because, according to them, the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) doesn't authorize tariffs. From the New Civil Liberty Alliance's press release - "However, this statute authorizes specific emergency actions like imposing sanctions or freezing assets to protect the United States from foreign threats. It does not authorize the President to impose tariffs. In its nearly 50-year history, no other president — including President Trump in his first term — has ever tried to use the IEEPA to impose tariffs."

Living in a small town in a rural area of PA that has a thriving Amish community, I see folks traveling on horse & buggy every day, and I think to myself, "Hmm, I could do that".....:)

Better be careful your putting out facts again and that is frowned upon smart guy.:)

I also heard on the news a bipartisan group of Legislators are moving to get rid of or put limits on the tariff time frame.

Negotiate what, exactly. I've yet to see one specific legal trade item mentioned anywhere.

Oh, that's easy - you'll find the item in the Harmonized Trade Schedule - it's here, all 36 General Notes and 99 chapters. Nothing to it, really: international trade is so easy anyone can understand it in a few minutes.

Harmonized Tariff Schedule

This one is just ours - every other country has their own .... we'll, maybe not the Svalbard Archipelago. St. Helena, or Reunion Island (and a few others we hit with tariffs yesterday).

Won't affect me, I don't buy new anymore.
Heard today Ford is dropping the prices big-time on F-150's and other models.
