Arthroscopic Knee Surgery UPDATE

I have experienced the exact same surgery. It was about 8 years ago. I remember the worse part was the first morning after the surgery. I believe I was walking with crutches in 2 days, and then with a brace within a week. Scars can no longer be seen. If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me anytime.

Good luck!

One more thing. Frozen peas are just as good as any other ice pack, plus they are cheap and reusable. I just wouldn't eat them after all of the thaws and freezes.

I had that surgery about ten years ago. Recovery was quick, used a cane for about two days before I was back to my regular routine.

I had a torn meniscus in my left knee in November '04. I walked out of the surgery center without help. The agonizinig pain stopped with the surgery.

I can forcast rain / cold fronts 18 to 36 hours in advance of bad weather. When Katrina was blowing in the Gulf and on New Orleans, I could barely walk. Two or 3 ibuprof

The surgery was needed and I would do it again. Fill the freezer with ice cubes. A 1 quart Ziplock bag filled with ice cubes, wrapped in a hand towel is very soothing on your knee.

Today I still can't run, but can walk fast and ride my bike. Good luck and follow the doctors advice.

Two so far. used the crutches til out of hosp. Walked on it that day. Piece of cake. Frozen peas for swelling. try ibuprofen instead of the Narc if you are going to carry a gun.

You should be back with the ballet company pretty fast. My homemade ice packs consist of one gallon zip lock bags (double them by putting one inside the other) mixed 50/50 with water and rubbing alcohol. They still freeze but not all the way. It makes the bag very easy to form around your knee. Make two of them. One is good for over 30 minutes. I found beer nuts in the local Dollar General.

I've had both knees done within the last two years. I only wish I had not waited so long to do it. Pain was gone immediately and recovery was quick. I borrowed one of those ice water recirculating pumps from a friend, I think it probably is the best way to go but regardless of the method make sure you keep it cold. Good luck.

I had it done. It was a non-event. Nothing to it. I had zero pain and my knee felt great when it healed.

I had my left knee repaired, meniscus was destroyed, 1989, I've been bone on bone since then. I am badly in need of a knee replacement. My right knee was had was repaired for a torn meniscus in 2004, no real problems since then, it will need replacement as well but later. recovery from the surgery is a piece of cake as long as you listen to the Dr's recovery instructions. Take care of yourself and you should recover just fine.

I have had both knees done. A few years after that I had knee replacement surgery on my right knee.

I was playing Racquetball 6 weeks after the arthroscopic surgery. Racquetball is probably the reason for needing it in the first place.

Three times now.

No, I don't have three legs, twice on the same knee, but 20 years later.

First time for both knees was only a year or two between events, and the healing time was ultra quick; last time was less than a year ago, and the healing took a little longer, me being 52 and all, but now ... in the middle of the day, I couldn't tell you which knee it was. Late at night, or if I fold my legs up under me weird, I can feel the most recent one, but that's the only time.

You should do fine, pretty amazing what they can do through those tiny little holes; you'll stil be able to wear a skirt/kilt with no huge scars.

Been there, had it, left knee.

Physical therapy after the procedure is a must. DO NOT sit on the couch waiting for it to heal.
It will not. I compare my experience, with PT to my brother, without PT, no comparison. He still has problems. I don't.

Both knees following an encounter with a fat man's front bumper. Left knee twice and the second time had me puking for a week from the anesthesia.

Ice is your friend. Well, Vicodin is your friend. That and Sam Adams makes the sun come up everytime!

Recovery depends on the approach the doc takes to get into your knee.

The last time I had my knee done the doc went into the knee with 2 punctures right at the joint.

By doing that he did not have to punch through muscle to get to where he needed.

I was on a stationary bike 2 days after the procedure, only used crutches the day of the procedure and only needed a very few pain meds during recovery.

I also had them do a nerve block on me so I could be awake during the procedure. I wanted to watch.

Had it done about 1 today. Feel pretty good now, but it might be the Vicodan. Have a cooler full of water and ice attached to my knee with a hose.

This may be a bit late, but don't let the Vicodan fool you. Stay off the leg and use ice. I went to lunch after having mine done and had a nice Thai meal. I paid for that little adventure the next day when my knee was the size of a volleyball. Other than that it healed quickly and I believe I was back to work in 3 days. The Green Curry was excellent but not worth the pain.

Had both knees done, one twice.Do the PT,use your ice packs and invest in a good pair of shoes/boots.They will make a difference on how your knees feel.
