Assad regime in Syria falls

Throwing Assad under the bus would hardly earn Putin more allies, would it.

As civil disobedience in the Georgian Republic continues despite brutal suppression, I'd suspect Putin had to make it clear to his minions here that he'll take care of them if the people throw out the oligarch's henchmen. Otherwise Putin's allies might decide to quit to save themselves.

Gotta wonder why Putin would give him sanctuary in Russia. What’s in it for him?

I would think Assad has many, many millions in Swiss banks. Puti gets a pay day, which he needs.

This was a really good idea - reported in 'Newsweek:'

"Israel's foreign minister says it has struck suspected chemical weapons sites and long-range rockets in Syria in order to prevent them from falling into the hands of hostile actors.

"The only interest we have is the security of Israel and its citizens," said Israel's foreign minister Gideon Saar on Monday."

I am sure Abu Mohammed al-Jolani only wants peace in the region.

Simon Sebag Montefiore: After Assad

“The warlord Abu Mohammad al-Jolani—formerly of al-Qaeda, then al-Nusra, and now the leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, known as HTS—now rules Damascus and much of Syria—but far from all. On Wednesday, his faction announced that “Muslims and Christians in all their diversity will be respected.” Whether this suggests a genuine wish, or whether this is simply the latest chameleon twist in al-Jolani’s long history of deception on the road to creating an Islamist state, has yet to be seen. (Of course, the Western media are easily manipulated by small details.”

The chemical weapons factories, missiles, and ISIS obviously have no business in Syria.

Biden ordered some 75 strikes against ISIS on Sunday in Syria with B-52, F-15, and A-10 airstrikes as a warning. This is an international crisis and opportunities cannot and will not be tolerated by ISIS.

That's today. They scatter and come back, like any other virus. Those temporarily driven out of Iraq were (and are) in Syria, North and Central African nations, then Malaysia, Indonesia, and southern Philippines. Virulent ideals are hard to kill. Even with air power.

Even Somali al Shabab hate (and fight) IS pukes, and have engaged them for at least 2 years in Puntland, the actual East African Horn.

...Every day I'm so grateful for being a winner of life's lottery...being born in the good ole US of A.

Amen. Watching the news from any number of other places on this planet should make any of us thankful to be Americans.

On CNN last night, Clarissa Ward and her crew went into a Syrian prison (under escort, of course). They found a locked cell with what looked like a bundle of blankets on the floor. One of her rebel escorts shot the lock off the cell door, and checked out the pile of blankets...turned out there was a middle-aged man hiding in there.

When he emerged, and realized that they weren't there to kill him, he began sobbing, and hugging Ms. Ward and everyone else there. They gave him water, and helped him walk outside, where he saw the sun for the first time in months. The poor guy couldn't stop crying, both from relief and joy...

Assad can hide in Russia until he takes his last breath...but I'm confident I know where that evil monster will go after that.
