I have had a S&W (I believe a Chief's Special) small, .38 , two inch barrel, WITH ADJUSTABLE SIGHTS. Can anyone advise the model number and estimated value. Someone told me it was a model 50, but I cannot find information on that model to check. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum.

Model numbers weren't assigned until 1957 and earlier versions were known as the Chiefs Special Target. What's the serial number on the butt?

Open the cylinder and see if it's marked in the frame cut like this Model 60.

Welcome. Post the info as requested above. There are a number of possibilities and Chief's Special is certainly one. However, there are also a couple possibilities that are scarce guns. Get it nailed down before trying to sell it if that's what you're thinking of doing.

You've come to the right place son. Sounds like it should be a Model 60, the first stainless steel production revolver. IIRC some were made with adjustable sights and might have been called "Target" models.
