At 50yd why bother with scope?

IMO, a quality, illuminated, 1-4x low power variable optic (LPVO) provides the best of all worlds for a close in rifle.

At 1x you’ve got the benefit of a red dot and still have the benefits magnification provides for IDing possible targets and obtaining hits at medium range.

I’m talking about a quality optic like the Steiner P4xi with German Schott Glass from the Carl Zeiss Factory and true daylight bright illumination....not some Chinese garbage regardless of a higher magnification range.

A good marksman can easily take a 1-4 out to 400 yards or more so long as the glass is of high quality like Schott from Germany or LOW from Japan.

Shooting at 50 yd with a scope is a great opportunity to refine fundamentals by striving for the tightest possible groups.
While not as exciting as longer range shooting, it WILL pay off when you start reaching way out there. ;)

I've got a Vortex Golden Eagle on my Annie........the bullseye on a regulation NRA small bore 50 ft. target is about this big "o" smaller than a .22 shell. I shoot between 25, and 100 yards......the Golden Eagle is 15 X 60.......that tiny dot at 60 X looks like an 8" paper plate

I was deadly with a M16A1 at 500 yards with iron sights. I agree that at 50 yards you do not need a scope. I have never shot a gun with electronic sights. I'm pretty stocked to try out this new thing on my Sport II. If anything I will be adding iron sights to mine.

Meh, we shot the G3 from 0 to 400 meters with iron sights, everything from 400 to 600 was for the machine gun to pick up. I'm pretty comfortable using iron sights, once you have your POA/POI you are pretty much good to go.
