Austin, TX area... educate me please ***UPDATE POST #44***

First house fell through, had another offer they preferred and I'm not engaging in a bidding war.

So, with our limited budget, we've came up with a new strategy. We'll focus on the best school districts and find a house there. I'm willing to make the sacrifice of living in the country and having a yard if my kids get the best education TX offers.

But I don't know how to handle living within city limits and in one of them huuuuuge neighborhoods with less than 1/4 of an acre per house... but it's not all about me... I'm nervous...

Weather

Howdy,
Right now Austin is having flooding weather. Also subject to hurricane, tornados and other bad weather.
Fredericksburg is at 1700 ft elevation. We may have Thunderstorms and hail but no tornados. Light snowfall and flashflooding.
Something to consider.

Alright, the bank called today, we are good to go and we'll be closing on the house tomorrow. Soon we'll be living in Temple, TX (2-4 weeks) and what can I say.... 50% of me is excited and the other half is somewhat reserved.

Love the house, don't like the yard and big neighborhood. But it has a good school district and it's going to be good for the kids. Plus our oldest is already down there, he lives in Harker Heights.

The business will come with me and I have so many plans to grow it. Guess that's what I'm really exited about. Never lived within city limits but we'll make the best out of it. I'm happy and it was honestly not too bad of a headache to purchase a house. Buying a car from a dealer is worse...

Good luck with the new home and sorry you left OK but Temple is a nice area. I use to live in Georgetown, TX and drove through Temple a lot and based on your comments I think you will be much happier there than in Austin.

Oklahoma has been good to us, but the only reason we are here is because big Army told my wife this is where we are going. We never wanted to live here :o

Congratulations. I came into this thread just about at the end, so I'll spare you my diatribe about Austin.

Suffice it to say that when I first visited there in the mid 1980s, I thought it was a place I could retire to. No more. There are other spots in Texas Hill Country that I'd like, but Austin is just not one of them.

I hope you like your new surroundings and community.

Alright, this is my first post from our new house... exciting :D
