Auto Computer INSANE??

Yesterday I had car problem - 2011 Buick Regal.
Backed out of drive, started forward, Engine Shut Down - total failure.
Message on Display - [Service Parking Assist]
Tried restart - would not crank.
Had to manually push the car out of raodway.
-
Took three calls to get a tow truck on site - that is another story.
Tow driver had no idea about the message. Never heard of seen before.
Driver wanted to use Jump Box to verify battery - No change - would not crank,

While under hood replacing cover over battery I heard a noise.
Remined me of a winch spooling out - seemed to be low down and at front of engine compartment .
Was a surprise and the description of location is best guess.

Got back in car.
The [Service Parking Assist] was gone from display.
Turned key - ENGINE START
Message: Lower and Raise Driver Side Door - so I did.
Message: Lower and Raise Passenger Side Door - so I did.
Display was now normal.
Verified operation by shutting down and restarting three or four times.
Right now I DO NOT TRUST the car.

During the "failure" time windows would not operate.
I did not try radio, horn, lights, or turn signals.

Does anybody have any ideas about this problem/situation?
No Check Engine Light or any other messages on display.

Currently driving the Silverado - do not trust the car.

Ah electronics--BARF.

Have found many time with that electronics stuff, just shutting things down waiting a little and then restarting MIGHT straighten things out. Next step if that did not work pull the neg connection off the battery, wait a bit and reinstall. Many times those time out will fix things up. Of course pulling the Neg cable you might loose some programing in your fobs, settings!

Had a car computer problem on a 1983 Nissan Sentra leave me stranded once. Whipped out the Owners Manual, and was directed to flip a recessed switch on the computer, mounted under the passenger seat. This "Limp Home" mode bypassed whatever issue it had.

The noise the OP describes might be an emissions purge valve or the fuel injection depressurizing.

Did the OP turn the key all the way back to OFF before trying to restart?

Replace your battery. Processors are very sensitive to a low/weak/shorted battery condition and even if jumped will cause further issues till the weak link (battery) is replaced. Ask me how I know...;). (I replace 10 times as many batteries in the hot weather vs. frigid cold)

I have heard this advice for a while now. About a year ago I started getting odd, unconnected issues with my car. A new battery solved them all.

Recently tried to start my 2019 Nissan Altima and the dash showed "Key Code Not Recognized."
Yep...battery died. New battery fixed it, not a problem with the key.

As others have said it is a low battery issue, what you were doing with the windows was re initializing them so the computer knows where they are. todays cars/trucks have a very heavy electrical load even when off. I invested in a diagnostic computer to find the problems a few years ago, it has saved me thousands.

OP, everything you said is normal for that situation. Computers operating under lower than acceptable voltage make for weird results. And yes, even the lower/raise widows is part of the normal process afterwards of resetting things.

With today's touch screen cars and electrical displays, any weirdness should be immediately interrupted as a battery going bad or charging system problem. Kind of like the dim lights on cars of the 50's - 80's. :D

Old cars are not immune to electrical problems either. My 97 Tahoe currently has some a problem.

It starts ok, runs for a while, then the dashboard lights all come on, loses power, then dies. It starts ok again, runs for a while, then dies again. Its behaving as if the the computer is dying. Hopefully there are still parts available, mechanically it is in great shape.

It has been semi-retired to the cabin in northern Wisconsin and spends most of the time in the garage on a battery tender. I haven't seen any signs of rodents chewing up the wiring but that's possible too.

Thanks for the responses.

Yes, the display probably did mention lower/raise windows.

I really do not think Low Battery Voltage was the problem.

Less than ten minutes before the FAILURE I had returned after driving over twenty miles at highway speed.
Had backed out of driveway and shifted into Drive.
Total distance after shifting - about FIVE FEET!

Even though it starts every time, I do not trust it.

Remembering advice given by mechanic to a friend whose car had a timing chain problem:
"Do not drive any farther than you are willing to walk back"

I do not want to be a pedestrian.
