I joined this forum a little over 10 years ago while I was in my mid-twenties, but never really read "The Lounge" until recently.

That is the future of guns in America. Not looking good. This is why elsewhere on a thread I said that the value of the S&W revolvers from the 50-80s will fall as the baby boomers die and their collections hit the market.

You may very well be right, but I think it is also possible that younger shooters who currently own a bunch of plastic guns will pick up an interest in older firearms as they themselves get older. If that turns out not to be the case, then a few of us will have extensive collections.

I started out accumulating what was popular at the time. Most of that stuff is gone now, with the exception of enough utilitarian self defense tools to check all the boxes, and my collection focuses on pre model number S&W revolvers, Swiss SIG P210s, German Sig Sauers, a few Colt revolvers, and a few 1911s. I pretty much no longer buy it if it isn't all steel and often older than myself.

I'm 58, but I try to not act like it!

My mental age is still somewhere around 18, although if you asked my wife, she would probably subtract about 10 years from that.

One of my best friends just turned 66, and we laugh how the younger crowd might see us as old, but they'd better not make the mistake of seeing us as old and feeble.

67 carry either a Sig Legion P229 in 40 .. a S&W Compact in 40 or my Berretta PX4 Sub Compact in 9mm ..

I'm a bit surprised the average age is much higher then I thought it would be !!

So it does seem more middle age and older carry at a higher percentage then younger people 50 and younger ?? Least from this poll ..

I think the song says something about not as good as I once was but as good once as I ever was. Do my best to live up to that. Be 69 soon, Model 60 357 3 inch.

I'm 65. If I had known I was going to live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself.

42 here and planning to live long and doing what I need to do so I won't say that at 65 :D (see my posts in Snubby's Health and Fitness thread).

On a more serious note, bummed to see how few my age or less compared to our more experienced members. Similar demographics in my other passion, enduro racing with my dirtbike. The young kids just don't get into activities that require them to leave their computer/smart phone/TV like the older generations (I'm too young to be saying that lol).

I'm similar in age (42) and most of my collection is metal and like you, new stuff doesn't interest me. I have a few much older than me, a few of similar vintage, and some hold overs to a different time made recently.

301 votes and it's been pretty consistent 46% 65 and up

I think there should be more categories because almost half of the responders fall into one category. There should be 65 - 70, 70 - 75, 75 - 80, 80 - 85, 85 plus.

I'm in the 75 - 80 range and carry a CZ clone loaded with .38 Super +P hollow points.

Well I'm 72 and not carrying anything while I'm typing this but there's a 38, a 40 and a 45 within two steps so I'm covered.

I will be 50 in a week or so and have been a member here for a year and a half. I found this great place as I was waiting on my CC and was shopping for a Shield. Later an M&P 15T. I have learned a lot from you guys. I knew there are many knowledgeable seniors on here but did not realize just how many. A lot of the guys I know in their late 70's are not very tech savvy but you guys rock! Thanks for the help!

68 here. I do love my S&W's but tend to carry a Ruger SP101 in 357 magnum. Recently picked up a BG38 Bodyguard, jury is still out on it as a carry piece. If I'm on the road I make sure there's a 1911 in 45acp within arms reach.
