Before Arizona switched over their carry law, they had reciprocity on an Indiana permit I believe. Their law now allows anyone over the age of 21(with the standard obvious exceptions) to concealed carry, and those of 18 or older to open carry. Does anyone know if, though i'm under 21 since I am in possession of a permit that allows me to concealed carry in a State whose permit they used to honor, I can conceal my weapon? I have family outside Phoenix, in an area fairly common to cartel runners and the like. I prefer concealed, brings a lot less trouble, especially in more urban environments.

This is from the Arizona Department of Public Safety:

"Notwithstanding the provisions of this section, a person with a concealed weapons permit from another state may not carry a concealed weapon in this state if the person is under twenty-one years of age or is under indictment for, or has been convicted of, a felony offense in any jurisdiction, unless the person's rights have been restored or the conviction is expunged, set-aside or vacated and the applicant is currently not a prohibited possessor under state or federal law."

Bummer. I guess you can't carry concealed here in Arizona.

Thank you very much sir. It's a pain in the neck, but I suppose I will simply have to deal with a few sideways glances. Maybe I'll buy a fancier holster, if I'm going to display it, might as well do it properly.

It's very common to open carry in Phoenix, at least it was when I was there. I was there 2001-2007 and saw folks open carry every day. Chances are, you won't get a second look.

My buddy is stationed there and says everybody open carries, but if you get caught I bet it won't be pretty.

Maybe I misread. I thought the question posted was he's under 21 and has a permit from another state that they don't honor.

You read correctly, but Arizona allows open carry without a permit at 18. I prefer concealed because, outside of small towns, around here open carry is a great way to attract unwanted attention.

We live about 25 miles north of Tucson and around here you don't see open carry all that often. A guy in the grocery store with a gun showing will generate stares, pointing and hushed conversations. I agree that OC tends to draw attention that I would just as soon avoid, but that's just me. I'll be renewing my carry permit next spring even though Arizona no longer requires one for concealed carry. It's nice to have the permit especially when traveling to reciprocating states and that is most of them.

Well since I'll be needing to get an open carry holster anyboy have any suggestions? I'm thinkinking maybe alligator. I don't want anything over-the-top and gaudy, but I want somthing that is going to display a Milspec 1911 nicely.
