Backgroung check

Glad i live in Georgia. With my Weapons Carry License, I only complete the paperwork and I'm good to go.
Used to be that way in WA - until I-1639 was passed last year.

I never once experienced a delay. I bought a few dozen guns over the previous 6 years and walked out with every one of them same day every time.

Since I-1639 it is a minimum of a 10 day wait, by law. Personally I've bought half a dozen since it passed and my wait times have been 13 - 22 days! For a CCP license holder who was approved on the spot EVERY time dozens of times prior to the new law.

Now what the heck is that accomplishing?

I bought a pistol last week and waited 90 minutes for a background check. Today I initiated another purchase and am told that the wait time is now two days. Wow!

I think recent events have made a lot of folks realize the value of the 2nd Amendment. Hell, just look at what's going on right now, tonight, in Atlanta... :(

Just to add to the info, this last Friday I went into the que here. I was 2017 in line for the “instant” background check. Not a big deal really but it seems to be a trend. I was approved Monday afternoon.

Those with CCW permits here used to be able to “go to the front” but that has changed at some point too. Again no big deal but it was kinda nice.

In Indiana, if you are delayed and 3 business days pass w/out ATF justifying the delay, you are able to take possession of your gun without a proceed notification. Burden of proof is on ATF and if they do not deny within 3 business days gun is good to go. I've only had that happen once and that is the way it played out, delayed for 3 days with no further correspondence from ATF. I picked up my gun the next day.

But the firearms dealer is NOT required to transfer after the 3 business days if no response. It is an option, May choose to transfer.

LTC=Immediate walkout here in TX. I still have to fill out the 4473 and the FFL still has to make the call, but I don’t have to wait around for it and can leave with the gun. Love it.

Colorado: Concealed handgun permit means nothing. Active or retired law enforcement credentials mean nothing. Every transfer has to go through the full procedure.

Rationally, that is how it should be. If we have a set of rules those rules should apply equally to everyone.

Not that I fully agree with the NICS requirements, but if we must have these requirements there should be no exceptions. My $0.02 worth here.

You guys are lucky. Out here it's a mandatory 10days from the time the paper work is submitted till you can pick it up. And due to the virus, some people have waited as much 3 weeks. If DOJ wants to, they can legally delay for 30days. After 30days, unless you are "undetermined", you have to resubmit and pay another dros fee. If you are "undetermined", it's up to the ffl as to whether or not you can pick up.

Having become accustomed to living in the (mostly) free state of Georgia, either of these would be a really big deal to me.

I had repeat customers being put on delayed, despite having being approved instantly before. I think it's a lot going on and they have to work hard to keep up with all the requests.

Seldom do I find reason to disagree with my favorite holster guy, but you don’t think the fact that we in Georgia have already undergone a more extensive background check to receive our Georgia Weapons Carry License should mean anything? On the initial application, we must go to the County Sheriff’s office to be fingerprinted, then the SO runs the background check. Subsequent renewals do not require fingerprints again.

Same in Iowa. In addition some states require passing "live fire", Minnesota is one of those.

If your state (or part of it) is in the habit of issuing CCW permits because the applicant can fog a spoon, then this is true. Certain county sheriffs in Nevada were doing just that a while back and the CCW exemption was pulled by the Feds until the state legislature passed a law requiring a background check every time CCW renewal time came around.

LVMPD here in Clark County are in the habit of taking at least 90 days to perform background checks, "to be thorough", apparently. If that is so, then our CCW permit does mean something.

Guilford County N.C. live fire @ 7 yds 90% fingerprint and extensive background check including medical/mental for original CCP, renewals just fill in the paperwork any pay unless you are expired the you do everything all over. When purchasing w/CCP just fill out the 4473 and you are done. No CCP go to Sheriffs office and buy a purchase permit; last one I got many many moons ago was a ten day wait have no idea how long now.

Back ground check as of this morning estimated at a 2 day wait time due to volume of requests.

In New York the pistol issues (and rifle in New York City) requirements to purchase vary. In Rockland County you go to the store, but the gun, take the receipt to the county seat and have the Pistol Permit Judge sign an approval and the clerk add it to your permit and then you go back and pick up the gun. In my county, you go to the Sheriffs office, give them $5.00 per voucher for a new pistol and just take it to the dealer you want to buy any pistol from. Bring back voucher after it is completed by the dealer and the gun to the sheriffs department, they look at it, check the serial number and update your permit. Since I made a bunch of purchases during the lock down, I gave the Sheriff $35.00 and got 7 vouchers at one time without any issue at all.

Legally they are only allowed to charge $3 for an amendment. Up to $10 for the initial permit and $3 for an amendment unless you are Suffolk.

Quoted from Penal Law section 400...

“Elsewhere in the state, the licensing officer shall collect and pay into the county treasury the following fees:  for each license to carry or possess a pistol or revolver, not less than three dollars nor more than ten dollars as may be determined by the legislative body of the county;  for each amendment thereto, three dollars, and five dollars in the county of Suffolk.”

It doesn't accomplish anything, other than to infringe on your rights.
WA state politicians don't like guns or gun owners.
They constantly chip away at our rights and attempt to make legal gun ownership as onerous as possible.
Meanwhile, the crimes committed by drug users and outlaws in general go virtually unpunished.

Welcome to WA state, where logic and reason no longer exist.

As evidenced by what is going on in Seattle right now.
The thing that sucks worst of all is that the 3 counties around Seattle and the Puget Sound (all urban) get to impose this garbage on the other 20-something counties in the state because those 3 counties have over 50% of the population of the state. Another case of big blue cities dictating to the vastly larger red territories of the rest of the state.
