Backyard pictures

Faulkner, very nice pictures, I like birds too.

"Goldfinches are pretty common this time of year in the Ozarks..."
That sort of surprised me, we have Goldfinches year round, they just aren't gold in the winter.

The scene below (a picture I took last week) is common this time of year, not so much in winter. Although they don't totally disappear, Goldfinches seem to thin out in winter around here.

We had some unusual visitors stopping by this week. A pair of Blue Grosbeaks, and 4 males & one female Rose- Breasted Grosbeaks..
Don't see them much..

I caught a glimpse of a Blue Grosbeaks this week, mistaking it for a Indigo Bunting, but have not been able to get a picture. I saw a Rose-Breasted Grosbeak through the window on one of our feeders today. You're right, we don't see them much and they don't like getting their picture taken.

Getting a quality picture of some of these birds migrating through is time consuming.

Wish that I could take pictures half that good.

Thank you. I have to say the key attribute to good wildlife pictures is patience. Just like those that hunt know that good equipment helps, but good equipment won't do diddly for a hunter or photographer without someone willing to find a spot where the animals are and be patient.

Great pics of foxes, had a couple in back yard in Ga. one night, early AM. Didnt let the Grey out as that would have been murder. He was Very territorial , killed 2 tree rats and opossum.

Crows!

Had 1 crow that would visit the feeder maybe every other week, that I saw. This day heard several cawing so looked out and several Murders were in yard around feeder. All of them never came back.

The weather forecast was looking good last night so Mrs. Faulkner asked me if I'd take her out in the morning around our place for some outdoor photography. Maybe call up a few birds and see what else might show up.

This morning after breakfast we both gathered our gear and headed out. We had a great time and I thought I'd share a few pictures I took.

There is a honeysuckle thicket on a fence row where a lot of birds hang out, including some hummingbirds when they're taking a break from our back porch feeders.

Goldfinches are pretty common this time of year in the Ozarks and we have a lot of them hanging around. They're easy to photograph because they're easy to see and not shy at all.

We were surprised to see a Baltimore Oriole because we have not set anything out to attract them as they migrate through. They do not stay here long, usually in and out in a week or so as they migrate further north. They're a shy bird and don't like to get their picture taken so you have to be quick when you see one.

Red bellied woodpeckers are usually around here all year long. They'll let you take their picture as long as you don't get too close.

Indigo buntings leave in the fall and are gone all winter, then show back up in spring. Some will stay in the area but most migrate further north for the summer. They prefer to stay mostly concealed in thickets and are challenging to get their picture, but they will come out to get a drink so we watch for them around standing water or puddles.

They are super pics of some great backyard birds.

Thanks for sharing them,

Waiting this spring for these guys to show,
Rose Breasted Grossbeaks.

Every year, they hang for about two weeks, and gone.

They are in and out pretty quickly as they migrate through the Ozarks this time of year too. I caught this one on one of our feeders along with an Indigo Bunting this weekend.
