I just heard about what happened in a small town not too far from me.
It seems as though someone walked into the grocery store and was talking to the guy that was there with the salvation army collecting the money. After a short conversation, the guy grabs the pot of money an runs with it.
The older gentleman that was manning the collection pot and a Pepsi delivery guy chased after him, but he got away.
This is first for me. I thought that I had seen/heard just about everything.

We had a report of a Salvation Army volunteer worker who was manning a bucket at a local Walmart just walked off with the bucket full of money after his shift. He or the money have not been seen for several days.

Times is tough folks. As Ronald Reagan once said, "People do as much good as they can and as much bad as they think they have to." Robbing from the Salvation Army bucket tells you just how bad that is for some people.

Bullseye

Very little of human perfidy suprises me anymore. Here in NJ a little while ago the treasurer of a kids' softball league was caught snitching coins-about $20,000 worth IIRC.

It appears these are pretty easy targets, as in the last couple of weeks here, there have been reports of a woman walking into a convenience store, distracting the clerk and grabbing the a charity donation jar sitting on the counter. Fortunately she was on camera the whole time. The Salvation army kettles are being taken by a two man operation, where one talks to the bellringer, and the other grabs the kettle.

Happens around my area regularly. Asshats recently stole part of a nativity scene from a church school.

There have been two salvation army kettles stolen here in two weeks. It never ceases to amaze me what people are capable of.

In Lansing I remember seeing them chained down and secured with another padlock that kept them from being opened by the bell ringer. Only the manager or whoever at the SA had the key. Though I suppose you could sit and saw the bucket open. I think most of the bell ringers back "home" were sentenced to it as community service anyway.

I also knew of shady store owners that would place "charity" containers by the cash register for non existent charities, sick kids that didn't exist, etc. One person even had a "toy donation drop box" that netted Christmas presents for their kids and extended family. Oddly, those were Hindus doing that, so I'm not sure why they had Christmas...

None of these sorts of scams or robberies are new mind you. They were certainly known in 19th century London, which thanks to the period press, left an interesting record of crime in a city.

UPDATE ON THE STOLEN KETTLE

Update on the stolen kettle.
They ran this guy down through a partial plate number.
When they stopped him he had 22.00 that he had taken from the kettle. He also had jewelery that he had taken from various areas, and to top it off, a bunch of drugs. Looks like the police hit the jackpot on this one.
Hopefully he will get something out of this.:D

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE

I hope this guy gets 3 hots and a cot for quite a few future Chistmas seasons. Maybe he'll think twice next time he needs a fix.

If this guy was willing to steal from the Salvation Army to get $22, it seems like he would hit the jackpot in going to jail for 3 hots and a cot. Seems like we ought to pitch in some more money so he can get cable, and internet.
