Bad Westerns

At one time, in my youth, I thought there was no such thing as a bad western. It has horses and guns, what could go wrong? Then, in the early '80's, came the Lone Ranger. Boy was I wrong.

You're right. All of those make the "Leaves-much-to-be-desired" list, but the all time stinker award, in my opinion, goes to "Terror of Tiny Town."

Of course, the guy who had the Shetland pony concession probably made more money on this one film than he did in his long career of running the pony rides at the local carnival. I mean, where else could you ever find that many little pony saddles?:D

Even bad movies can be pretty entertaining! This one always breaks me up!

At least Clint Eastwoods "Pasta" westerns are watchable--but I loathe all the others ive seen.

The Italian westerns are about 95% garbage, 3% so-so, and 2% sheer brilliance. Leone's work, particularly "Once Upon A Time...", belongs among not just the best westerns, but the best movies ever made.

But since this thread is about BAD specimen, try "The Great Silence", Sergio Corbucci 1968. An Italian-French co-production, it's set in Utah, but was filmed in the Italian Alps. Even the trailer puts you to sleep. Don't worry that it's in Italian; makes no sense in translation either. The movie is worse. The acting is horrible. And it's relentlessly depressing.

The only nice touch is the "hero's" use of a Mauser Broomhandle.

Never cared for High Plains Drifter. Don't hate me Eastwood lovers.

I didn't like The Quick and the Dead with Hackman, Stone, DiCraprio, and the Aussie whose name I suddenly can't remember but will come to me right after I post this.

Young Guns was just ridiculous to me.

Just pretend this is witty.

Actually, that one wasnt as bad as the recent remake atrocity. At least it stuck to the original story-line like the other did not try to. At least Tonto didnt look like an insane murderer like the recent one did.

You've got that right. The Legend of the Lone Ranger, bad as it was, had it's moments. I had an idea what we were in for with the new one when Depp opted to play Tonto.
I've got another for the stinker corral. Started watching Bad Girls last night, (mainly because Madeleine Stowe is a sho nuff babe). Made it thru 20-30 minutes before I had to shut it off. Don't know if it gets any better. Totally unwatchable.

That one was pretty darn bad, but I think The Lone Ranger with Johnny Depp as Tonto stunk even worse. I couldn't make it through watching either of them when they come on TV.

The last action sequence in the movie is a classic though, it captures the Lone Ranger daring do pretty much perfectly.

I surprised that nobody has mentioned "Appaloosa".
A couple of fairly decent gun fights smothered in two hours of one of the worst "Love" stories ever written. Both the hero and the villain apparently thinking with the wrong gun.
