Badly broken M&P 9

I don't think anyone would say with authority that the damage was caused by an overload. It appears to be caused by firing out of battery. That (of course) shouldn't happen. If it is just replacing the gun than S&W will most likely do that. You and S&W are both fortunate that you weren't hurt. If it were mine I would like an answer as to what they think happened. Still, I wouldn't hold my breath.

My brother mentioned a fellow who had a new rifle (not S&W) that blew up using some Factory reloads. The fellow wasn't hurt and the factory sent him a new rifle.

Now that you've further explained the source of you ammunition I'll retract my statement about shooting "ziplock" ammo. In addition, the complete lack of damage to the barrel leads me to believe that you had an Out of Battery ignition. I would recomend that you contact S&W and arrainge to send your pistol in. If I'm correct about your experiencing and OOB event I expect that S&W will replace your pistol under warranty.

As for the actual cause, IMO it was likely to be some isolated defect in your pistol that I rather doubt S&W will explain to you. Firearms manufacturers tend to be extremely hesitant to admit any defect in one of their products so in general they just replace a pistol without any explanation. Pure guess on my part is that perhaps the firing pin got stuck in the forward position and it cause the fresh round to fire while it was sliding up the breech face.
Basically, something similar to a classic "slam fire" but a bit earlier in the sequence.

Or it looks to be the culprit of a double charged factory. Few, far in between but it can happen. Let us know what Smith says.

Going to MY gunsmith tommrow to have him take a look. he's an smith dealer and one of the best pistolsmith's in the tri-state area. will update late tommrow night

Hi All Again,
Well I went to my gun dealer/smith today. He looked over my gun really good, and his conclusion was it could be one of two things. 1) The case separated right at the baseline, but the lack of brass blown into the gun, and no barrel damage what so ever. 2) Out of battery firing. He offered to replace my gun right there, but he had none in stock. He made it a point that he didn't even have a single 9mm in stock. And all the M&P'S he received on Monday are gone. he is only open for retail Wed. Thr. Fri. and Sat. So off to S&W she goes. Hope she won't be gone to long! And then we'll see what S&W thinks and dose to make it right?
Regards
Brett

since nobody else has mentioned this Ill throw this out there what is your procedure for " polishing the feedramp " seems if a out of battery occured and you worked on a part that is directly in the area for out of battery discharges it could possibly be a problem.

Just a dremmel, a cone shaped felt polishing wheel, and some polishing compound. No reshaping of the ramp just a polish to make it mirror smooth. For BETTER feeding.
