Is there any specific method in breaking in the M&P 10? I thought there would be some sort of method used to insure the proper break in but i read the manual front to back and it doesnt state anything about it. Anybody have any advice?

Clean the storage lube from weapon. Lube per instructions.

I NEVER EVER do any mag dumps (Esp on a new barrel). "Normally" (new), I put a few rounds down range just getting the sights dialed in and checking the function of the weapon. By then the barrel is warmed up. With a light glove you should be able to pick up the rifle by the barrel and not get 2nd or 3rd degree burns on your hand or set the glove on fire :).

ALL of the people I have seen with problems with keeping any reasonable groups are the ones that have "mag dumped" their weapons and "smoked" the barrel from day one WAY over heating it. Break-in should be any easy does it project and ease the barrel temp. to higher heat.

....Would you take a brand new car, with a cold engine, get on the interstate and plant your foot on the floor to see how fast and hard the car would go before it blows up or wonder why it burns oil all the time from then on ?

My barrel break in goes on with sighting in a new rifle, no need to waste ammo right?
I'm not a believer in the shoot one, clean one, yada yada yada, sacrifice a small animal to the barrel gods and so on.

I do the initial cleaning of factory lube then shoot at a relatively slow pace sighting in before moving on to targets and clean maybe every 20-30 in the first 100. After that the barrel wont get cleaned until I finish shooting or accuracy drops off, usually its me finishing.

Heat is the barrels enemy

Here is what Armalite says about theirs for what it's worth.
