Since I can't buy ammo and mags due to the silliness, It's time to dress up the ole MP15-22. Been looking at a Kineti-Tech barrel shroud, (fake can, they do look nice)

I have installed a bunch of barrel devices on full size AR's and know there is a recommended torque. However, with the 6" shroud, there is no way you can grab the barrel with a vise and blocks. Is hand tight good enough, or is there a locking device in the shroud? Should a lock washer be used?

It will be going on a threaded barrel.

Thanks in advance....

I was told not to put a locking device (lock washer, lockite etc) on the shroud because in the process of removing it you could damage your upper (assuming you are putting this on your 15-22) because there is no way to hold the barrel to stop it from tearing up the polymer. I put mine on hand tight and just keep checking periodicity while shooting and so far it has never come loose after hundreds of rounds.

I'm thinking of trying a split washer on my Kinetic-Tech... It has come loose on me after one mag and it was hand tightened.

Hand tight.

Cut up a rubber patch or inner tube. You can trace the shape/size you want with sockets from your toolbox.

You can make several to use as alignment shims or just one to give it a locking affect.

Thanks for the suggestions folks. I'm going to pick one up and see how it works out. They really do enhance the look of the 15-22. (IMHO :) )

ctj50, I am with you on this one.
I have been drooling over a kineti-tech shroud for a couple of weeks. It just adds an extra layer of awesome or something.
Be sure to post up some pictures when you get the new shroud installed.

"Do you know a barrel shroud is?" LOL

You can re-use your crush washer since you are not going to put enough torque with your hands to really crush it. Or you could use a new one.
A split ring washer will cut some material away from the shoulder of the threads or the back of the shroud or both. I would not use one.

Thanks, i got some crushwashers laying around... Ill give it a try.

Yea, I'm leaning that way my self. Re-using the old one sounds like a good plan if the hand tight option doesn't work out.
