My wife contacted three shower installers for estimates in September 2024.
We're still getting solicitations from companies she never called.

Could there be a network of installers in NE OH that passes my phone number around to all members when an unsuspecting home owner asks for an estimate? Sure seems like that's the case.

We went with a Kohler step-in shower with Kohler hardware and Kohler installers. We called them.......they didn't call us.

I've never heard of that happening before. But in a small-town region, who knows?

Were all their quotes close to one another in price?

One of the installers your wife contacted was probably a broker who works with numerous shower installers.

I had my my bath tub and tile walls removed and a stand up shower installed a couple of years ago. It came out real nice. Cost was right around $9000.

If don't mind me asking what cost are you seeing?

It is not unlikely that several companies in your area that do the same work are actually owned by the same person, or members of the same family, even though they are doing business under different company names. I have seen this with plumbing and roofing companies.

We just finished a kitchen remodel (for those of you thinking about that, PM me before you start for some “lessons learned “), so for ‘25 my lovely wife would like to upgrade our Master Bath. We were in the bathroom, the other day, rummaging thru thoughts on design and various ideas to upgrade the bath, looking up bath fixtures and such on our iPhone. We are now getting text, emails and calls from various contractors to do the work……privacy is a thing of the past……..they are listening

My friend and neighbor got 3 estimates on landscape lighting and some small garden shrubbery. One was for $26K, one for 17K and the other for $7K. He called the $7K guy and of course he never returned the call. The $17K guy answered and said he'd get back to my friend to schedule - never did. The $26K guy was out of line and so he was never called.

I am suggesting to my friend he might want to do the 12V DC lighting himself (not very hard) and the materials including the light fixtures, transformer and wire are under $2K. Then he can just get a regular landscaper to plant some small shrubs if he has no desire to do that.

These days it is hard to get descent people to do a descent job at a descent price!

I was in the market for some hands free shoes last week and went on line to look at what was out there. Next day I had at least 8 or 9 ads for shoes on my Facebook page and they have not stopped yet. Search engines seem to make money selling info about what you are looking at. And I use Duck Duck Go.

The Grande Spa

Another vote for Duck Duck. Our 1952 green ceramic tile bathroom (6 feet wide x 8 feet deep with cast iron tub, original toilet, and shower head was replaced with walk in handicap shower bay, ceramic tile walls and floor, custom built solid cherry cabinets, new sink, toilet, and hand held shower head, wall mount shower head, and ceiling mount rain head. Four closets were demolished and new spa bathroom is still 8' deep but now 9' wide.

The floor was 2" of concrete, 1-1/2" of concrete and tile, and a layer of concrete poured between the floor joists. The walls were 3/8" sheet rock, 3/4" concrete plaster with ceramic tile walls. Floor and wall demotion took 4 days, 5,500 pounds of debris on the 16 foot trailer that went to the dump. Final price was $26,000 and my wife was happy. It was her money, her house, and our home.

I finished plaster on 3 door openings that used to be closets. The bathroom closet just disappeared, 2 bedroom and 1 linen closet became exterior bathroom walls. I worked part-time, as needed for my contractor neighbor for 15 plus years. Working for him was more fun than being a corporate engineer.

Old Mail

My wife retired in 2016 and did not renew her professional license. We get CEI training announcements in the mail and online every day or two. It's just modern life.

I have been in the same house for 25 years, and still get some mail for the former owner.
😳🤔😳🤔😳

I’ve got a similar but “better” story than you guys. My daughter recently became a cat owner. I like all animals (dogs, cats, etc) that make sense as a pet, so since she got the cat, while on the phone or texting I will often ask her how the cat is doing. Now, every day, I get “notifications” suggesting I watch cat-related
videos on youtoob. :D

Anyone who is actually concerned with “privacy” should get rid of their cell phone and ditch the internet, but for most of us, it’s too late for that.

If you use Google typically you can go to the upper right corner of the page and select Incognito Mode and you will not be flooded with algorithm generated emails.
