I have an old (from the 1980's, I think)Aimpoint on my model 46
I could not find ANY original batteries so I ended up going to batteries plus and asking what could be used to replace the originals.
Sounds complicated but it is not.
I replaced the 2 original batteries with 1 Rayovac Lithium #123A.
You need to take the plastic cover off the Rayovac battery by cutting down the side, then you have to completely clean the battery so there is nothing to prevent it from sliding into the Aimpoint. I used super fine sandpaper to make sure mine was clean. If it doesn't work when you try it reverse the battery and try it again.
I will attach a picture that shows the 2 original batteries on the left, the replacement battery with the red arrow and how the replacement battery looks before removing the plastic cover.

Batteries for old aimpoint

Original Batteries were A1 with a large "+" sign over a small #2
I have attached a couple of pictures. Sorry for the quality, they are hard to photograph with just a IPhone.

Ok, I tried it and it works, but the positive end is reversed from the illustration on the screw in battery cap. Also the intensity adjustment never shuts the light off, unless the battery is removed. I don't remember the adjustment knob only having about 30 degrees of movement. The Aimpoint website has some information, the Mark III was produced from 1983 to January 1986. 32 years ago!

Thank you for putting this info out there Hognfrog.

I too found that I had to reverse the battery, but it works, but like you said I remove the battery when done shooting. I know its a pain to keep removing the battery, but at least it is working!!
