Hi folks,

Even though I am fairly familiar with Beretta models and types, I saw and handled an unfamiliar Beretta model at our range today. On the slide it was marked "92 STEEL-I" and the serial # started with ST.... It was an all stainless steel construction and single action (very unusual for Beretta) as well as being optically somewhat different. The iconic barrel protruding from the end of the slide was absent (barrel almost flush with the end of the slide) and minor details being different from the standard 92F models. All in all a very solid and high quality variant of the 92F. Does anyone have any information on this model? When manufactured? and for whom or what purpose?

The Steel model, the Billennium, the Combat are all special versions of the 92. The single action only feature is actually not unusual for Beretta, as the 92 series began that way, and all the 8x series has single action cocked-and-locked capability, at least as an option.
The Steel model is very expensive, and features the Brigadier slide, match bushing, match barrel, and user adjustable trigger. They are exceptionally accurate.

Today I actually got to put 15 rounds through this pistol and take a pic. I must say that in more than 30 years of active shooting I have seldom encountered a gun of this exceptional quality. Very smooth action, light recoil (with 124gr FMJs) and fantastic trigger (no creeping whatsoever) and phenomenal accuracy. The owner claims not to have done any tune up, trigger job or else to it - straight out of the box performance. Also the pistol had nice Novak sights and high quality black ebony wood grips. NOTHING cheap about this Beretta! Enjoy the photo!

The Steel I is 5th on my top five list of highest quality semi autos ever built since WWII. That’s how much I like it from that standpoint.

Neat chart....thank you! Even after long consideration and another trial at our range, I can not find anything negative about the 92-Steel-I at all, save perhaps the weight. It feels a bit heavier then my full size Colt 1911 Government. But that's about all.

Question
do any of you fine folks own a M9A3?

how does it compare to the 92 series (I own a 92FS Italian)
the PX4 Storm Compact series (I own 2)

Id really like to have that M9A3 , but a street price of $900 is a deep dig into my pocket.

it appears as though most on this thread are Beretta enthusiast , so I guess that would be as good a place as any to ask.

CDNN Sports is currently having a sale on Berretta 92's for those interested. The price is supposedly "too low to print". It is $499.99 for he full size model. FYI

Just because I'm a bit of a purist, the one that I most like is the Fusion. In addition to the steel frame and obvious hand-fit and finish, the pistol actually retains the 'normal' action of the design- DA/SA with slide safety. I know people prefer their gun with a frame safety, but my thought is, if you're going to have a suped up version of a gun, make it the gun as it is.

Not caring about weight, I've always wanted both a Beretta and a Sig (P226) with a steel frame.

I'd never sell an Italian made FS haha because I did (more than once) & regret it. LOL. My 2 older 92F pistols run great so I really have no complaints. I am not really up on the newer models., I've held a few with the straight back strap frame...they feel really nice just look kinda weird to me. Also I am not a fan of frame rails on my pistols since I have no interest in running a light or laser. I prefer the basic older 92 series and I am talking 92F not 92FS.

My favorite Beretta's are the "G" guns ...... which are decocker only ....no "safety" ....... of those the Elite II is my favorite......

The Steel is a great range/game gun..... I prefer the alloy frames for carry.

Some other great 92s that you can see on the chart are the Compacts, Centurions and Compact Type-M single stacK

Hello, must be karma, I pick up my first 92 series yesterday. I have 4 92/96 type taurus’s And always wanted to try a (real) 92.
So I got a 92fs m9a1 INOX compact. So far I love it. Not the slide safety but I will get used to it. What cool is I spent a couple hours a dremel tool, jewelers files a dial indicator and converted all my magazines to fit each other, Taurus/beretta, beretta/Taurus.

I retro fitted one of my older 92F pistols w a lotta inox parts, it's pretty neat. One little FYI for owners of older 92F series., Wilson will not touch em for any mods since they do not have the slide block cut & enlarged hammer pin block. Which is a buncha baloney.
