Those of you who remember the TV series "Spenser for Hire", may remember that the late actor, Robert Urich, started out the series carrying a snub nose revolver and later used a Beretta 92F as his sidearm. I believe the series only lasted 3 seasons. I believe that Hawk carried a 8in. nickel Colt Python.
I think you're correct. I remember thinking at the time that Spenser in the books used a five-shot S&W snub .38, and a Browning Hi-Power in some later books, when he wants more power and capacity. In the first books, he had a snub .32. The author eventually learned more about guns.
Hawk has used several guns in both the series and the books. He tends to prefer flashy, powerful items.
Robert B. Parker also writes two other series, the Sunny Randall and the Jesse Stone series. Both characters appear to use Chief Special .38 snubs. But on TV,Tom Selleck plays Stone with a .45 auto, which seems to be a special favorite of the actor, who also used one on, "Magnum, P.I." and on, "Vegas."
In the present Stone book, it looks as if Jesse and Sunny are going to marry, so the two series may be combined. ??
