BEST Concealed Carry Revolver

I like your thinking. I'm thinking I'm going to load mine the same.

It does not make the last round hurt your hands any less; but at least you don't have to worry about getting on-target quickly on the last shot.

And after the first four shots are lighter there is less likelihood of a flinch for the last one.

I don't practice like that, I just load the defensive rounds like that.

Sometimes I carry this 629-5...not often.

Oh my.....I need to be able to "like" that 629 more than once.

That is one of my "grail guns."

Usually, when quoting, I remove the pix, but not here. Just adore pix of 2" carry guns in either IWB or pocket rigs. Rarely do we see Herrett's grips on the Forum. Wonder why? Too expensive perhaps? The Shooting Ace grips are flat and work well on a snub.

Herrett's Detective on my Security Six. It was minimum dimensions rather than custom fitted and was still expensive as grips go. And yes, I chose it to fill space behind the trigger guard and because it has the minimum grip extension for this frame.

Thanks for the post and the photo of the Herrett's grip. Did not know the Detective style could be made for a medium frame. Thought only for a small frame gun. You think like I do: "minimum grip extension for the frame."

What is your preferred S&W concealed revolver? Yes, we would prefer a Remington 870, some a 1911, or the Battleship Missouri in a gunfight, but please limit your responses to Smith revolvers. I have a CS9 and CS45 that are my carry guns, but as the years go by, I find that I prefer revolvers when in a hurry. Looking at the S&W Model 640 and similar models, any suggestions? Thank you!

Currently a 642... and actually I wouldn't prefer a Remington 870 or a 1911, even at home. The enclosed hammer snub revolver has become my 24/7 go-to self-defense choice. For answering the door, checking the mail, taking out the trash, there is no better choice due to it's CQ strengths. If investigating a bump in the night, it makes a lot of sense as well since the risks of getting into a grappling/gun disarm scenario against an hidden/unseen assailant would be relatively high. I have Glocks for situations when I would have some warning/lead time and the snubs low ammunition capacity could possibly be a concern, but a I still depend on a snub the vast majority of the time. I used to have a 7-shot 870 as well as a S&W M&P 15, but didn't see any realistic practical need for them as a civilian.

My carry

I have carried a Model 42 Airweight for years, and have it registered in both the USA and Mexico. Loaded with Buffalo Bore low velocity (800 fps) hollow points. It's small and light, and I have the squeeze safety pinned back, so no problem there.

So far everybody has mentioned J-Frames. I must admit they are handy to carry, but I don't feel comfortable using one as a primary. My M340PD lives constantly in my left side pocket. (I'm right handed). For my primary carry revolver my favorite is my 2 1/2" M66-1. It is small enough to carry concealed in an OWB holster. Shoots like a target revolver and balances perfectly. Plus it's stainless, so no rust worries. But best of all, it's a .357 Magnum.
I actually have both of these on right now, and feel prepared for anything.
Jim

I also carry two guns, both .357. I was once asked, "Two guns? What are you afraid of?"

To which I responded, "Nothing at all.":D

The 329 is my field carry with reduced loads.

649-2

I wouldn't trade my pre-lock S&W 649-2 with CrimsonTrace laser grips for anything but I will put a set of green laser grips on it when I find a set.

I will also buy the first reasonably priced pre lock 649-3 in 357 Magnum or 38 Special with a decent trigger I find to go with it.

On a good day I can cover all 5 with my hand shooting single action at 50 yards using the laser from a good rest with good ammo. At 72 years old the good days are getting further apart.

My personal favorite CC revolver? This one:
657-2_zps274c6d8e.jpg

3" 657 in a Milt Sparks PMK, loaded with 250 grain LSWC at ~850-900 fps.

AAAARRRGGGGGHHHH! I call down the demons on you... ;)
Since looking at these images, I haven't been able to stop drooling.
(People are already suggesting maybe it's time to shunt me off to the farm. :D)

Great photos. So, tell me, what's the recoil like with that load in that size of sixgun? Have you broiled any steaks with the muzzle flash?

And does it shoot high or low?

The .41 Mag is a superb cartridge, and I applaud your choice!
