BEST Concealed Carry Revolver

NOWADAYS IN MY OLD AGE, I RELY ON THE 642-1 (NO LOCK) STUFFED WITH SPEER GOLD DOT, .38 SPL+P, 135GR BONDED SWCHP, FOR SHORT BARRELS, WITH LOW FLASH POWDER. I CARRY IT IN A POCKET HOLSTER. I CARRY A COUPLE OF SPEED STRIPS, GIVING ME 15 ROUNDS……………

MY J-FRAMES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN FITTED WITH CRIMSON TRACE LASER GRIPS, SINCE MAS AYOOB TURNED ME ONTO THEM IN A TRAINING, ABOUT 25 YEARS AGO. I FAVOR THE CT LG-405 MODEL WHICH HAS A MOLDED IN AIR POCKET OVER THE BACKSTRAP, TO CUSHION RECOIL………….

I carry a 442 and my wife carries a 642. Both have Crimson Trace Laser Grips and are loaded with +P ammo. I usually have a strip loader in my other pocket. Great little revolvers that are very easy to carry even in warm weather clothing.

As if you have not had enough input, my primary is the Model 60/357 - carry it concealed at all times with no issues or complaints - hope I never 'need' it but if I do it should do the job.

Depending on circumstances, one of these three, all loaded with factory Remington Golden Saber 125 grain 357 Magnum loads.

Model 586 seven-shot L-Comp. My favorite: extra shot and very accurate.

Model 19 F-Comp. Super refined, accurate and low profile.

Model 13 357 Carry Gun. The lowest profile gun I own.

Each carried in a Milt Sparks PMK holster.

Keith

Now that's one I'd CC! Sweet...

J-Frame Carry "6940"

One of my all time faves is a 1992 mfg. 640 with an extra 940 cylinder & extractor fitted (just dropped into the gun, actually!) that will put a cylinder full of vintage Cor-Bon 9mm+p into one hole at seven yards all day long. The guy at S&W who sold me the cylinder told me that the barrels on the 940s were .357 rather than .355 and they never had any accuracy issues. Coolest. Smith. Ever.

Models 66 or 19 have been my back-up or duty carry for years. Traded a Taurus the other day for a 3" model 60. It was a 608 that had been sitting around that I got as a package deal. The guy insisted so he got a 2" .38 not +p rated, I get a near mint 3" .357 I can appendix carry easy. Both happy, gonna retire the 19, still have to carry a Sig 226 or 229 DAK even retired it's a habit, I feel naked after daily carry for last years of job. 4506, 4006 still see qualification use & occasional carry, but too heavy for ever day these days since I gave up a Sam Browne belt for carry. I have a job offer up North so they may see use on vest carry or shoulder holster if I can find a comfortable one. Suggestions??

Bodyguard 38

Accurate ,light has lazer 400 rounds down range but after 25 my hand is hurting!

:)

BEST concealed carry revolver

The department I retired from issued the 642, with ammo at the time being Remington Golden Saber +P hollowpoint (can't remember the grain, sorry). They switched to the Hornady Critical Duty ammo right before I retired in 2013 and have since switched out the 642's for M&P Shields.
I had the option of purchasing my duty gun or the back up gun when I retired. I chose the backup gun. I carried that little 642 EVERYWHERE. It's lightweight, has never malfunctioned, and with 5 .38's loaded and another dozen on two speed strips, I have a lot of piece of mind. Having an internal hammer, I can carry in any type of holster or if necessary, in an (empty) pants pocket.
First thing I did after retiring though, was to chuck the factory grips and put on some Hogue's with finger grooves.

What is your preferred S&W concealed revolver? Yes, we would prefer a Remington 870, some a 1911, or the Battleship Missouri in a gunfight, but please limit your responses to Smith revolvers. I have a CS9 and CS45 that are my carry guns, but as the years go by, I find that I prefer revolvers when in a hurry. Looking at the S&W Model 640 and similar models, any suggestions? Thank you!

The model 19 4" if I am going to carry a revolver, concealed with boot grips, or not concealed. Open carry is ok here in WY, though I prefer concealed. The 19 is a good compromise between power and size with excellent accuracy not available in a snubby. It is the first handgun I ever bought way back in 1975. Killed a mountain lion with it once. One shot with a 125 gr jhp. Very effective. Lion took two jumps and was dead.

carry

Model 327 gets my nod. Eight rounds of .357 and with my sideguard holster in belt I forget it is available. Big guy getting in and out of a Corvette. Used autos for a while but with age the springs and cleaning is a pain. The PD or Nightguard seems fine. Oneof those carry a lot use hopefully not.

I think that shooting a defensive snubbie single action is a mistake. I think it is a mistake to practice with it.

For that reason I have snubbies with shrouded hammers that preclude the urge to shoot single action and remove a potential snagging issue.

Ported my 340PD

I would love the 640 but it's a little too much for pocket carry. The 340 and 340PD seemed like they would be brutal with 357 mags so for the money, I chose the 442 Pro Moon Clip. Great for pocket carry and about 1/2 the price of the 340 duo. If money is no object, I'd go the 340 route.

I had my 340PD ported (magna-port) because it was pretty brutal shooting .357 and honestly not exactly pleasant with .38+p. There is a noticeable reduction in felt recoil and muzzle flip. I also added an ergo delta grip. Yeah, it's ugly but it also makes a difference. I feel more comfortable carrying it now as my follow up shots are much more accurate. There is some additional noise and flash but it does not bother me, even in low light conditions.

Blessed are the 296's

Carry it behind in a IWB. Only problem is when I have to go with my kid in his old Triumph sports car. Then it feels like a log got stuck in my shorts. Never had to use it but it sure is cute.
