Best Local Beers....

Here in Anaheim, there is a brewing renaissance. I live a couple blocks from Anaheim brewery, so I go there frequently. (They are very local and hard to find outside of Orange County). Great hefe, and many others. A new brewery is opening across the park from them this summer.

Golden Road just opened across from the stadium, but they recently sold out to one of the majors. Noble ales is really good and specializes in a bunch of stouts and porters that I like. We also have Bottle Logic a few miles away, and they always have exciting beers on tap. Up the street from them is Valient Brewing, but they mostly brew hoppy IPA style ales, that aren't my style.

Then a few miles away in Fullerton, you have the Rue family's Bruery. Great beers, and that place keeps expanding. Around the corner from them is Bootleggers brewery. They have great stouts.

So plenty of good beer nearby.

The local brewery, Tallgrass Brewing, makes several good beers. I especially like there pale ale called 16-Bit.

Last month, I was in New Albany, IN on some personal business. My wife and I met my brother and sister-in-law at the Floyd County Brewing Company. Great craft beers, especially the dark ale; and great food!

Living in the Philly burbs, I love me some Victory Brewing and Troegs...who are two of the big ones. Lots of smaller brewers like Tired Hands that are putting out some outstanding beers.

There are a plethora of microbreweries hereabouts, too - probably far too many for what the market can support. Most of them are . . . okay.

We have a world-class beer, though: La Cumbre's Elevated IPA, which actually took GABF Gold in the category. Some of their others (their ongoing Project Dank, for instance) are pretty cerebral, but I'm not being chauvinistic when I say, as an IPA aficionado, Elevated is the best IPA I've ever had. (And the out-of-state IPA fan friends with whom I share them and the rating sites seem to agree.)

I love the Black and Tan! Told a young female food server it was black because they brewed it with coal water from the mines....she believed me!

Their Yuengling cousins resurrected their Yuengling Ice Cream brand, they make a Black and Tan!

Alabama is getting blessed with local brewers. Appears we get a new one every 6 months or so. Straight to Ale in Hunstville is my favorite and love the tasting room. All time best ever - Cigar City in Tampa tasting room. They have stuff that is the best I ever drank that is only available in the tasting room. Love the micro brewery tasting rooms. Wow. no wonder Budweiser is loosing ground.

Living in Paradise, CA we are about 15 minutes away from Sierra Nevada Brewery. I know it's gone beyond local, but pretty darn good with a variety to choose from.

My house beer, despite the fact that I live in the middle of Oregon micro-brew country.

Their tour is the best. All free, and if you walk out of the tasting of six to eight different beers at the end, and you are still legal to drive, you took a wrong turn somewhere.

A few MN choices:
August Schells, makes several beers that still taste like beer. Currently they have a seasonal dark German Alt bier called Schmaltz Alt that is quite tastey. They also bought the rights to the old Grain Belt brand, and brew that as well.

The previously aformentioned Summit. They have a Great Northern Porter that is very nice, as well as a good crisp Pilsner.

And then there is Surly. Most of their brews appeal to those looking to see how many pounds of hops a brewer can fit in a can, but they have a Helles style that is very well done, and doesn't leave you with that turpentine taste in your mouth for a day or 2......

Colorado is "over flowing" with local breweries (yes, pun intended ).

I'm a very light drinker so a bit particular when I do have a cold one. My current favorite is 90 Shilling by Odel Brewing. Quite tasty.

The Coco Chocolate Stout is quite tasty and so is their Smokin' Red. And they always make a special summer brew too.
