I have seen many of the beautiful revolver grips out there and was hoping I could ask for some first hand advice. I have two round butt revolvers that currently have rubber grips. I am looking for round to square conversion wood grips. I like the look of the target grips but want to be sure that the backstrap has a good metal to wood fit. Any advice would be helpful and pics would be great. Thanks.

What is your budget? Because depending on what you want to spend, there are a few options I would recommend.

For around $70-100 you can get one of several varieties of Kim Ahrends stocks in various different woods.

If you can budget more, then I would suggest you look at John Culina's stocks. They are even nicer than the Ahrends IMO, but are also much pricier. The fit and finish on them is fantastic though.

I am fond of Herrett's Shooting Stars.

Love my Ahrends Retro Combats....feels great in hand and controls well at the range.

I do find these a bit bulky for CCW though and switch them out for Spegels when out and about.

I'm guessing you attach the "filler" to only one side of the grip, but what is your procedure?
(Or is it attached to the frame itself ?)

It's shaped like a small triangle. I traced it on paper with one side off, cut the wood and attached it to the left grip by drilling a hole in the piece and inserting a short length of a dowel through it and into the grip on one side.

I've used Minwax Wood Filler to fill in the backstrap area when I had square factory combat grips on round butt frame.I made it very slightly thicker so when the grip screw was tightened it held the filler in place.

Right now I have a pair of N round butt combats on a 686-4 K/L round butt that fits with only a slight excess of wood extending past the metal near the top of the back.I have a few factory N RB combats but no factory K/L RB combats.

Just slather up sum bondo, fill the gap, rasp the excess off, krylon for color match.

I don't think you're gonna find what you're looking for unless you have a grip custom made and the maker has your gun for a custom fit. It's just the nature of the beast.

Hard to beat Ahrends , real wood , not plywood aka laminate, grips for $70.00. The model 58 in my avatar has them, Retro Combats.
Having hands that can't palm a basketball , I find the shape most excellent !

I have Culina's on my Performance Center R8. They are perfect fit and really beautiful.

I put a set of Hogue Combat round to square conversions on this 625, I really like them

Altamont

Altamont walnut conversion grips on a 686. These fit like target grips but have rounded edges.
