Years ago my group of elk hunting buddies and I always took turns cooking, one day each (breakfast, sack lunch, supper). Naturally, we all tried to top each other with our culinary skills.
It came to Bob's day to cook, great breakfast of biscuits, sausage gravy, fried eggs, and a hefty lunch sack to carry along for the day.
At mid-morning Mr. Black Bear made his presence known by circling my position, working his way closer and closer as he repeatedly sniffed the air loudly. I tried talking to the bear, I tried yelling, I tried whistling loudly, I tried standing up and waving my arms, all the time with a .30-06 handy just in case.
Mr. Bear finally wandered off. I dug into my day pack, calmed myself with a cup of coffee and opened my lunch sack. Liverwurst, sharp cheddar cheese, onion, brown mustard on dark rye bread.
Sandwiches worth fighting wild bears over!
