Blizzard of 2016 - What to do? New post 84!

I recommend Windex.......Huh?

Yep Windex....Clean all your windows so you can stay inside and look out at the snow, and others doing what they're doing out in the snow.

Now would be a good time, to gas up the ole flivver, and head down to Florida for that vacation you've been putting off...Doesn't have to be extravagant, just a few days to get away.

I was stationed at Vint Hill just outside Manassas in the late 70's, we had a 24" snow while I was there and I lived on a snow emergency route that got plowed 4 days after the snow. Enjoy your time stuck at home, just remember it is only 58 days until spring! :)

My thoughts on the milk and bread thing is that's what's used up the quickest and I'd hate to risk the roads just to get milk or bread.
Of course, you could just do without for a day or two, but why?
Reloading, reading or catching up on the DVR cache sounds like a doable plan.

So on Friday and Saturday, here in the Washington DC area we are already under a blizzard watch. Living in Northern Virginia, just outside of DC if we get the 24" of snow we will be shut down as I do not expect to see a snow plow until Sunday. I had plans to go to a local gun show in Manassas and stop at the Abraham Bowman Distillery to pick up some bourbon. Besides shoveling what would you do? It's me, wife and 16 year old daughter.

Make chili, clean firearms, drink, ??????
Yes, Yes and Yes. May I also suggest crawling under the covers with momma as well?? :D

Living in a part of the country where "pray for snow" is a normal winter saying, it is hard to relate to the news making a big deal out of just another snow storm.

Two to three feet of new snow just means making sure you have the snowblower gassed up so you can back the 4 wheel drive out of the garage early in the morning so you can be the first person to bust fresh powder on the slopes.

Yup just another snowstorm.

It hasn't even happened yet, it's a weather prediction that is wrong more often than right. Sounds like a scare tactic to increase sales on things most folks have on hand anyways. It's the northeast, snow is normal correct?

And if your out of gas for the snow blower crank up your camera with Wanda as your model. You are a lucky man Bill.

In hurricane prep they say the item that is most often bought is Pop Tarts !!
Surprised no one has mentioned them !!

The '55 jeep tractor is chomping at the bit to eat some snow. Plenty of nice warm cup of soup, hot tea, brandy. I get to test the insulated hunting camos again.

As long as the generator can run the Keurig for that first jump start of caffeine brew if we lose power I'm ok.

VA SNOW

Son who lives down the street just tuned up the snow blower-- :D
being retired we stay pretty much stocked up this time of year. We don't need to go anywhere as well. am at present cleaning up and installing new 'O' rings in a 78G pellet gun. That will keep me busy-- have some 32/20 brass to trim and some to load. Mama will be making a batch of good stew and I tooled by the liquor store just for fun. Will be charging up camera bodies and am set for what ever comes. This reminds me of the storms in January of 1966. You never hear much about them because they were TWO storms but they hit back to back-- End of January/1st of February they were. I think some 3to4 feet total or so -- closed this area down-- I was stationed at Quantico and had some wisdom teeth pulled so was given a few days off-- I hitched a ride up to DC and called my girl who picked me up after work. We rode out the storm at her house, watching ball with Her Dad and staying snug-- :D Still have the same girl and will be married 49 years this April 1st. :)

The only thing I worry about around here is electricity, and it still isn't important enough to buy a generator. Coleman stoves for coffee, and cooking if I feel like it. I stocked up on canned goods a long time ago. Have a little bread, but I mostly like it toasted. Eggs, potatoes, friz vegetables, chicken. I'm surely not going to starve. Entertainment is internet if I have 'trons, books otherwise. I've never gotten bored enough that I actually reloaded, but it is still a theoretical possibility. My wife passed away in August, but to answer the OP, you could always send your daughter out for Coleman fuel or something. Caj's hints should not be ignored.

Central Ohio is supposed to be by-passed by this session of "White Death". I think I'll make a round of the gun stores tomorrow afternoon, to see if there are any pre-blizzard specials. My birthday is coming up and I need to find something to be a big surprise present (I always buy me the best gifts!) The 4x4 is supposed to be out of the shop soon, so maybe I'll get to play good Samaritan pulling people out of the ditch. Just another winter in paradise! Ivan

We lost power during Sandy for 7 days, and I had one of those gasoline generators at the time. I spent probably 3 days looking for scalped gasoline to refill my cans.
After that fiasco I went out and had a whole house generator installed, worth every penny. No electric=no well, no potty.
No going outside to fire up the old gas generator, or driving around looking for gasoline to feed it.
Lost power the other night for 5 hours and my fingers never left the keyboard. ;)
Show me what you got Jonas. :p

Good luck all.
