Bobcat vs. Coyote

Oh wow! I missed that and I live around there.

My money would definitely be on the Bobcat in that one - without even seeing the size of the coyote.

I live in Minnesota. With all the rain last year we had dozens of garter snakes in and around our building. I cannot imagine what we would done had then been venomous or aggressive snakes. At first, when we were only seeing a couple, I wanted our employees to leave them alone. They would crawl up to and out from the thresholds of the entrance doors. The scenario changed and by the time we were done we had killed over 40.

So many snakes and no recipes.

Wanted: Person who likes reloading as much as I like to provide the empty brass.

I'm doing fine for a crazy guy, providing all the evidence needed in the event an insanity plea becomes necessary.

I don't live in a town. Critters are a fact of life. Coons come up onto the porch every night looking for the barn cats' dinner leavings. Coyotes are thick as thieves. I have taken three in the last two years who figured out where my livestock dogs don't go at night. We have a mountain lion down by the creek. Fortunately we have a good supply of Whitetails and she doesn't bother anyone's animals. I've seen her prints right outside my pasture fence and it's clear she is aware of my herd but has decided they aren't worth the trouble. Bobcats? I took a 30 pounder last year who wouldn't quit taking chickens.

If I lived here I would move to town and let the critters take over! East LA sounds safer.

I'll take living with wild animals over living in a large urban metropolis anytime. While I was on my walk today I am always on the lookout for birds of prey and wild animals, deer that live on the outskirts of town are still wild and today I was within 25 yards of a yearling buck that was so engrossed in eating the blossoms off flowering bush that he missed me entirely or is so accustomed to people that he knows he is in no danger, I watched him for nearly 5 minutes, he was in good shape, ribs barely visible, and man was he scarfing those blossoms down, I didn't want to intrude but Saturday I will walk back out that way and check out what kind of blossoms they are and just how good they taste.

A bobcat walked into a bar . . .

No, it's not a lead into a joke. It actually happened in Arizona a few years ago. Cute, tame bobcat?

Any mammal that behaves strangely, such as seemingly being unafraid of humans, should be suspected of disease; a virulent, highly communicable kind.

This particularly one turned out to be rabid. It ended up "interacting" with some of the bar patrons, who had to get rabies shots.

That was in Cottonwood AZ, not too far from me. There is video on Youtube but it's security cam and not very interesting. Mostly just shows a bunch of drunks sticking their phones up towards the animal. Here's the local news article.

Sorry I just couldn't resist.....Interesting post though.

I live in a suburb of Denver. We've had coyote and raccoon in our back yard. On the Lockheed campus which is five miles from the highway and surrounded by houses there are herds of deer, elk, and even black bear sightings.

I don't agree. They can be wimps, but those I've seen are usually very self confident and can be aggressive. I cited the case above of a small pack that went after a man and his dog in Los Angeles, and four killed a singer in Canada, I think in New Brunswick.

In college, I reported for the school paper about a guy who owned a Dallas pet store. (No longer there.) He had some pretty interesting stuff, and had been bitten badly on one hand by a green tree python or emerald tree boa; I forget which.

Anyway, this guy sold the same coyote several times to the owner of a club who gave it to several of his dancers. The girls always brought it back in short order because it was aggressive and tore up their cars and homes. Ever see what dogs can do to furniture? It ain't pretty.

But that coyote in my OP here was definitely intimidated by that bobcat, which was acting very territorial. The coyote looked slightly smaller than the cat. A big coyote might have reversed that situation.

I've posted here several times about the big coyote (maybe a coydog) that went after my son in his back yard one night. He wore a leather coat, which minimized scratching and some bites, and he got out a Benchmade lockblade folding knife and opened it one-handed. He stabbed it in the stomach and cut down hard, lengthwise. The mutt howled and fled, probably to die before long. it was likely not a survivable wound. The son now wears a pistol when he goes out at night. Alas, there was blood all over that coat, thankfully all the coyote's. Scared his wife badly until they looked him over and ensured that none of the blood was his.
But the expensive coat was ruined.

Uh,oh: I just saw another nature feature on the news. They showed some snakes seen around the area due to the floods. One that I didn't get a really good look at before the scene changed may be an anaconda. I hope those aren't loose in Texas like the Burmese pythons now well established in Florida. I saw on, River Monsters this week what an anaconda can do to a man. Pretty grim, although the snake in that case didn't manage to swallow the Brazilian fisherman that it killed. But it left awful bruises on the body from its constriction that killed him and the teeth marks on the head suggested that it did try to swallow him.

Heh heh,not the ones i ran into. Also, back in eighty--we lived outside of town about a mile or so--and lived on a small ranch. There are in about a mile radius--maybe eight homes and such. Well, one night I was walking down the road back home--which is about a four block walk in distance--no lights and was about nine PM. I was being stalked by three Coyotes--all you could see was their eyes in the starlight it was so dark out there.Yes I was about to make bricks in my pants but,one started growling and I growled back. Hear a few arf arfs--and they ran away. I walked into my yard feeling like the meanest ******* in the woods, and about vomited with relief.

I have watched this dude since he was a few months old.
He is now about 4 years old and always looks healthy.
He show's up on a regular basis at one of my back deer stands.

He will hit that loggin trail in the background..hang a right and walk
straight past my ground stand.
He knows I'm in there and could care less.
One on one he would tear a yote to pieces.

I work mids, city of about 116,000. I've seen more fox in the past few years than all my years of wandering the shinery. I see a coyote at least once a week. Only seen a couple of bobcats, but I figger that was more cause they didn't want to be seen. We're starting to get some feral hogs following the creekbeds into town; we've shot 4.

Biggest deer I've seen, got dashcam video of him, was a 12pt with a drop tine. He was grazing on a soccer field between a go-cart track and state school at about 0200.

Baited a trail camera with a pig we shot a couple of years ago. A bobcat laid claim to the carcass. & here's some pics of her running off a couple of yotes from it.

I live in a West Texas town of about 100,000 population. I see a coyote once or twice a month here, usually in the mornings. A week ago a six year old boy was bitten by a rattlesnake outside a Logan's Roadhouse restaurant here in town.

I remember it as I was in Austin at the time. I also remember that most of the uber liberal agencies came out bashing Perry for ""using a gun""" and protecting himself. jon stewart came out with a funny take on it. Some had mentioned at how Perry is above the common person because he wasnt arrested--never telling the part where Perry was lawfully able to do what he did.Im no fan of stewart but--that sketch was actually funny.
