Bodyguard 2.0 Finally Released

I think that this pistol will be a big success. If you are already an M&P9/40/45 owner or have a Shield, this is a perfect small companion. Familiarity is a great selling point if you are already a S&W M&P user.

It competes with the new Ruger but they are both significantly larger than the original type LCP. Having a Tritium front sight is a feature that both Ruger and S&W now offer as standard. That is a great addition.

This will be kind of large as a pocket pistol for most people, but I think it will be is short supply for a while. I would much rather have this Bodyguard than a Ruger.

I got one today, got to my LGS right as they had put the first 2 they received out.

It's not nearly as big as many of y'all seem to think. Significantly smaller than my Sig P365, WAY thinner. Easily fits in the same pocket holster as my LCP. Very easy in the pocket - a touch longer than the LCP with the 10 round mag, a bit longer than that with the 12, but it still absolutely disappears in cargo shorts.

Here are a couple pics with my 1st gen Ruger LCP.

Interesting, because my P365 is noticeably larger than my Bodyguard 2.0

I like that the Bodyguard has a longer grip front to back than the P365. I have skinny hands and long fingers, and I find small rounded grip frames as tricky as a bar of soap.

I also see that S&W have minimized the slide height allowing more height to be in the grip frame to hang on to. You can get away with that in a 380 pistol. It is the same overall height as my 9mm PPS M2, but the Walther has a massively taller slide leaving less space for the actual grip.

It's really well done - I can get a full grip on the BG 2.0 even with the 10 round mag - a better grip than I get on the P365, or the Ruger.

I have to admit, I am a bit impressed by the Bodyguard 2.0, based solely on what I have seen on YouTube. Not impressed enough (at the moment) to run out and buy it, though. Currently, I have 3 380s: a Mauser HSc, a G42, and the P365-380. My pocket carry is the Sig, but I also shoot the Sig in the ShootSig matches.

Since the 380 is only viable in the ShootSig matches I'm not in a hurry to replace the P365-380 as my pocket carry. Before I would actually do something like that, I would need to see either a few YouTube comparisons of the Bodyguard 2.0 vs the P365-380 (the most likely to occur) or S&W establishing a factory promoted shooting program for S&W handguns, like the GSSF and ShootSig (less likely)!

Personally, I think that looking at the new S&W releases, they are on the right track!

We need a range report ASAP!

Please and thank you.

Reliability is the big question right now.

Thanks for posting the pictures. I was curious if the 9.8 ounce weight listed on the S&W website included the magazine. With S&W sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.

Still, that is a very light gun. I find weight makes a bigger difference than size in how easy a gun is to carry. And a lot of really small guns like the LCP are harder to shoot. I am going to stick with 9mm in the near future but if this proves to be reliable might pick one up.

It’s a trend to name a new product after an old totally different product. Maverick, 4-door “Mustang,” now Bodyguard.

Would love one but

The website doesn’t show any 10 round max model for those of us stuck in a restricted state. I emailed them to see if that will change.

Eh. I’ll stick with my original Bodyguard for now. It’s all about size and weight for pocket carry for me. This new one looks more like an inside waistband or belt carry and I have bunch of those already.

Tried it and liked it!

My local range got in a Bodyguard 2.0 for members to try and then order (the one they have is not for sale). Needless to say many have been trying it as soon as it is available, so it is quite dirty, but even so; I found it a pleasure to shoot over my 1.0. It is a bit lighter in weight and I can get it on target a lot quicker. I also enjoyed the capacity of 10 rounds (though they say there is a larger magazine in the box, a test is limited to just 10 rounds). My name is on the list for the model with the thumb safety, as I am able to flick the safety off with ease on my 1.0, and the 2.0 is even easier; and being on the old side, when out I always have one in the chamber.

On a side note, as an old "duffer", I carry my wallet in a button down shirt pocket, and the Bodyguard in the normal wallet pocket of my pants, thus if I am confronted and my wallet is demanded, you can guess what I am going to pull out of my back pocket (with the safety flipped off)!

Fiocchi FMJ for the win.:)

Nice.

On Facebook in one of the S&W groups, a member posted his report. The summary is that he ran 200 rounds with no issues. He used 150 rounds of range ammo and 50 rounds of Hornady Critical Defense.

He reported that the Bodyguard 2.0 has "alot" less felt recoil than his LCP Max and a better trigger.
