hi, newbie here, just bought a bodyguard with the laser and ran a few hundred rounds through it, went to clean it for the 1st time and all went well till putting it back together,i put the slide on and push the pin in, but when I release the the slide, it wont go all the way forward, I watched a video and im doing exactly what it showed, but it wont slide all the way forward, I guess I will be holstering my glock till I figure this out, I did see in a search about the screw for the laser, but not sure if that is it or not, any help would be great, thanks Fastercat

Make sure the trigger is in disconect mode. With the slide off, the hammer should be all the way forward and you should be able to pull the trigger all the way back. You should only feel the spring tension of the trigger. If you pull the trigger and the hammer starts to move forward then you're gonna have to hold the hammer with your other finger then pull the trigger & while holding the hammer with your finger slowly release it. You dont want to snap the hammer forward in other words.
That's the only thing I can think of. I hope that helps....

The hammer is forward, I just don't get it, also the trigger can pull freely all the way. Do I need to send this back to S&W to fix?

No, you just need to figure out what you did wrong while reassembling it... :) Take it apart and start over... I wish I could tell you exactly what u did wrong, but I don't know from here. I know I had some trouble the first time around with mine.. I just kept working it until I figured it out... don't remember what I found I was doing wrong. Sending it back will not help you....

I just thought of one thing... If I remember correctly, it may have something to do with the position of the barrel when you assemble it.. Ill have to go play with mine.... my BG that is..

Ok, make sure when you reassemble.... while holding the slide in position to allow the lever to be installed, the barrel is pushed all the way forward in the slide. You should be able to see all the way through the hole before installing the lever.

I had the same thing happen to me. As Turbo said the barrel has to be all the way forward.

I replied to this thread earlier, somehow thinking the takedown lever if in the wrong position could interfere with the slide going forward! Scratch that thought, I just pulled my BG out of the safe and broke it down following the owners manual instructions and re-assembled again using the owners manual. The instructions are pretty straight forward and it went back together without problems. You do have to play with the takedown pin a bit before you feel it snap into place! I wish I knew what to tell you. Follow the instructions word for word and I think you will find out yourself what might have happened. I have both the BG and the Ruger LCP so I have to get the instructions out each time as they are similar but just a tad bit different in takedown and re-assembly.

I deleted my original post so I hope those who read it weren't too confused of what my original thoughts were. Maybe I sniffed too much Ballistol CLP this morning?

Turbo - I re-read your post above and could the OP be just installing the takedown lever into detent hole forward of the barrel lug if he didn't push the barrel all the way forward? Just a few minutes ago, I had the muzzle end of my BG pointed slightly upward and the barrel had definitely fallen to the rear! He might be installing the pin into dead airspace in front of the barrel lug. If he reads these posts, once he pushes his barrel forward, he should see the opening of the barrel lug appear somewhere close to the fully forward position! I hope this might work for him!

Rick

Fastercat - Open your owners manual (I hope it is the same as mine) to page 24, figure 34 at the bottom. The barrel lug is below the 34. When you seat the takedown pin it will go into the rounded area below the 3. If you don't push that barrel forward like Turbo pointed out, you may just be pushing the takedown pin into the area below FIG which is forward of the barrel lug. This is just me thinking out loud, but just may be the step you might be missing?

Turbo - Your thoughts?

I think the above might work for the OP, but the more I think about the dead airspace forward of the lug, that is the area where the recoil spring would be? Unless there is enough room above that for someone to inadvertently install the takedown pin in the wrong location. I just hope something here will work for the OP. Nothing worse than having to send a new firearm back to the manufacturer for them to point out a simple mistake made in the reassembly!

I frequently have to grasp the end of the barrel and tug it forward before inserting the takedown pin. The pin doesn't like to go in square very easily.

Fastercat - If you have tried all we have offered and still have a problem, you might want to take it to the place of purchase. Maybe someone there might be able to walk you thru the reassembly and show you where you went wrong!

Good luck and happy shooting! - Rick
