Bodyguard .380 Mag Release

I have had my Bodyguard now for several years. But for the last 2 years I have had it in pieces waiting around to replace the mag release.

It simply wore out because it's polymer on metal.

I work in a machine shop. So I made a replacement out of metal/aluminum. It works great. And it is going to hold up for many years to come.

I know this is a huge pain for the .380. No one likes their mag to randomly release. It bothered me for about 2 months while I carried it. Only to find my mag on the floor. And randomly popping out of the gun.

Would anyone else interested in a metal version? I know Galloway Precision made one back in 2013. But I honestly feel like S&W kind of left this problem alone and never tried to fix it.

Stop forcing it in without depressing the release button. I have put hundreds of rounds through mine and my release still works fine. When I first got it I realized it wasn't made to be forced in without depressing the release.

By "forcing" it do you actually mean the very normal act of inserting the magazine without depressing the release? That is just silly. I practice with the Bodyguard like I would if I ever had to use it. Rather than have to baby the plastic release, I'd prefer to install a metal part that I can't wear out. It really should come with a metal one from the factory.

Purchase mag release

Anyone had any luck purchasing a metal or stock mag release? I just purchased my bodyguard this week and I'm having problems with it. The idea of sending it away for a few weeks doesn't make me a happy customer.

No luck so far still searching.s&w will replace it but you have to send it to them.I'm looking for one to install myself not to crazy about sending it to them.

How is a metal part going to make a difference? Then you'll be smacking a metal magazine into a metal mag catch. One of those is gonna wear out the other and you'll have the same result. Is the new part going to stick out slightly less so it doesn't hit the mag lips? How is anyone surprised that whacking a mag past the mag release resulted in a broken part?

I'm just used to pressing the magazine release as I insert the mag. Don't even think about it. Not like I ever envision doing a reload in the highly unlikely event I use the gun is a real self defense situation. And if I do, that one whack isn't gonna break the part.
