i have a 380 bodyguard that has a bad mag catch, you need to depress to insert the magazine.

i have a pre-paid fedex. does anyone know if i can get the pistol returned to my local gun dealer instead of my house as no one will be there to collect it ?

1. It is normal to have to depress the magazine catch to insert the magazine. The magazine is straight walled and does not have the angled surface that a double stack or other magazine has that allow smooth insertion.

2. Just have the firearm return shipped to you. When you get the tracking info, click on 'Hold at FedEx location' and you can pick it up at the distribution center.

Is your .380 BG new? Mine did the exact same thing, as did the BG's of several others on this forum. Mine smoothed out after a couple-3 months and a couple hundred rounds and it doesn't do that anymore, with either magazine. Maybe give it another month or two and 2-3 range sessions to see if that improves.

rjm is right. It'll smooth itself out. At least mine did.

RV4 Driver...This is an off topic so I hope I will not be slapped...

Back in my flying days I loved Vans RV series of aircraft...I wanted to build a RV3 but started a family so there went the money...I had to stay with my Taylorcraft bc12d...

Please excuse this off topic post, just had to give a thumbs up to a RV4 driver...

I don't think that is correct. It makes no sense. I have owned 3 BGs, one of which had this problem, and S&W fixed it while it was in for other repair.

So if it's "normal", why did they fix it?

FWIW, mine was the same way for a period of time. Once I STOPPED pushing the release when seating a mag, it worked itself in pretty quickly.
