Bought a M&P .40 S&W Pro Series - Starting to like it!!!!

I'd expect more from the pro model including a nice trigger out of the box. Send it back with complains about the slide and the trigger. Then put 300 rounds through it before making a final judgement.

The demo version you handled probably had 100's of dry fires over how long it was in the store if that tells you anything. If you want to try and fix it up a little yourself, remember to clean out the striker channel as that's a hidden spot for grit when shipped from the factory.

I must have been the lucky one, on my pro as the trigger is good and the reset is very noticeable with the finger and the ear. Send it in with a note about whats going on with your gun and Smith will make it right. I worked in CS for a few companies and let me tell you it's how you explain whats happening or happened that will make the CS guy decide what to do. I had customers who were very polite and I did what ever possible for them. then there were those that would say Hay this $^^%$# is just plain^%##%^&*^% what the %^%#$# are you going to do for me I demand you do this or that, to which I would say I am very sorry but there is nothing I can do for you. Get the picture?

I don't mean to sound rude, but I would never have taken delivery of the pistol if you were that unhappy with it. If you bought it from somewhere/one that has a no return/exchange policy, well, then it was a risk. As mentioned M&P triggers have gone through several changes and seem to vary quite a bit from pistol to pistol and especially from year to year. They, at least, IMO do seem to be improving.

Farther up this thread I mentioned that I did not notice the bad areas on the slide, and as I think back on the whole incident, I never even racked the slide or pulled the trigger. I was really hyped up about this purchase and thought this M&P would be like the one I handled in the other store.

I did contact S&W thru the web resources to get a return for repair lable, but so far nothing.

I haven't called S&W yet, I did ask for a return lable online. If I do have to call them I would not be rude or ridicule their product. I'm just venting my frustration here.

Just spoke with S&W customer service, explained the problems, and they are going to send a return label.

Just an Fyi for others- I ordered the return label online on a Thursday and Monday morning it was in my email inbox.

Good! I was gonna suggest calling them rather than contacting them online. Sometimes the e-mail gets flooded with enquiries and yours could be way down the list of replies. I have an e-mail question in with them right now about the slide stop being used as a slide release and no reply yet. Of course, it was sent last Friday so that's over a weekend. ;)

Just my 2 cents. I have used Glocks on the job since they came out somewhere in 1996. Just bought my first M&P last month. My trigger out of the box is better that any factory glock I have handled. Dont get me wrong. I respect the glock for it has taken care of me for years, but the S&W M&P is also more accurate. Just my observation. Hope your gun gets fixed and you enjoy it. On the other hand you have to respect it. If not trade it in and get something that you are comfortable with.

Think I will go to the local gun shop and see how the M&P triggers actually feel. I have no probelm with the triggers on my Glock 17 or 26.

Two things: One, I just bought a new FS 40, and, after reading so many posts about how bad the stock trigger is, my expectations were low. Surprise! It was far better than I expected.

Two, I had a question about it, emailed S&W CS, and got an answer back right away. I'm impressed.

Wrongway, they'll make it right for you. If you still don't like it and don't want to invest in the Apex tweaks -- hey, the market for brand new M&P's is hot. You won't have to wait long for someone willing to buy or trade.

Why would anyone buy a new pistol without at least dry-firing it? S&W does have QC. Every manufacturer of any item, guns, toasters, cars, etc., occasionally has a lemon sneak through. They have a warranty. Why not give them a chance to make it right? They would rather have a happy customer than someone who whines and bashes them on the forum.

I own two S&W semi-autos and two S&W revolvers. Mine function flawlessly. On the other hand, I've owned a Glock, which in my opinion sucked.

Different strokes for different folks.

Return label already here

Got my return label early today, just got back from Fedex, S&W should have it in two days.

I don't have any idea of the turn around time, I will post an update after it returns.

I did shoot it before I sent it out just to make sure there were no FTF, FTE, or any other functioning problems. I will say it is as accurate as any Glock I've shot. I did like the feel of the gun in my hand as I was shooting it, doesn't seem to have as much recoil as the Glocks.

Hopefully all will be well when it gets back home.

I'll answer that question...because some of us live in places where there is ONE gun store and they don't have a huge inventory. So pretty much EVERYTHING is special-ordered and you pay IN FULL/IN ADVANCE for those special orders. Or the gun you want is not in stock and the only way to get it is to order it. Again, you gotta pay IN ADVANCE to order it.

I own two Glocks that are flawless...a model 17 and 26. But my S&W 329 Nightguard which cost a LOT more had to go back because it had a light striking firing pin. Wouldn't even set off .44 Special loads.

M&P 40 Pro returned today

S&W replaced the slide and fixed the trigger problem. Can't wait to get it to the range and put some ammo thru it.

I will call S&W tomorrow and thank them for the work and quick turnaround time.

I think my Glocks will be leaving soon.

Sure is nice to work with a company that stands behind their product to the point of covering shipping both ways. Kudos to S&W for a fine product and the guts to stand behind it.

Will post range report soon.

Wrongway, see if S&W will put the Shield trigger in for you? they are an excellent trigger.

Range Report

Excellent! Let us know how it works at the range. Glad they were able to fix it.

Went well at the range today. Put almost 200 rds of CCI aluminum cased Blazers thru it, not one hiccup what-so-ever. The trigger pull is heavier now, I'm guessing about 6lbs, and it did not seem to shoot as well as I remember before sending it to S&W. I'm not going to gripe about the accuracy, because this pistol doesn't hurt my injured hand at all. The Glocks pound my right hand so bad, I cannot shoot as much as I like to.

Between the 40 Pro and 40c, I shot almost 350 rds, I haven't done that since before the accident.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but the 40c is very accurate. Much more so than the 40 Pro.

I had a great time shooting both of the M&P's, and already have plans to buy at least one more, a M&P 40 standard. I'll probably get a M&P 45 also.

Thanks Smith and Wesson for such a great pistol.
