Bought an old .44 spl today. Need some help verifying what I think it is.

That's a good looking N frame in my favorite caliber and barrel length. One thing is for sure and that is that no mechanical device may ever be made again by man with the care and skill that went into that old S&W.

Right side.

This has a glass smooth action. Not just the trigger but the hammer pull as well. I thought it must have been worked on but all the really old time S&W guys I've talked to said that it was normal for this era S&W to have such nice actions. I've had old S&Ws of this time before before but they were small I-frame type revolvers in .22, .32 or .38, never a N-frame. You can tell this was built well and more time and care went into it then the smaller guns they made at the time. Makes sense as this was a more expensive model.

Glad to see you back. Oh, and the 1926 also :).

I think all S & W revolvers of the era had the same assembly processes, but the size of the parts and different angles/leverage made the N frames feel different. Also, yours may have had the action smoothed out by many rounds sent downrange. Enjoy!
