Good afternoon all! I just purchased a brand new S&W Shield Performance Center in 9mm. I took it to the range today and put 250 rounds of 115gr Remington UMC through it. About every 5-6 shots the gun would stick out-of-battery fully to the rear (past the slide stop even. A hard smack on the end of the slide would complete the cycle, however i was having to do this as least once (sometimes 3 and 4 times ) per magazine. I field stripped and cleaned the gun twice through the firing to see if i could see any unusual wear or indication of any type of binding but i saw nothing out of the ordinary. I bought a box of federal ammo to rule out my ammunition but ran into the same issue and after 300 rounds total the issue does not seem to be getting ANY better :(. I've found a few places on line where people have had this same issue, but no one seems to be able to narrow it down to one specific problem or fix. Before i have to send my brand new gun back, i figured i would try online for a while and hope for a fix myself! Any thoughts or ideas? Anyone else had or heard of this issue and a fix? Should i try polishing around the barrel or on the frame slides?

It's the rsa hanging up on it's self.
Ill take a look, if thats it any idea on what the fix for that would be? Although I dont see how this would cause the weapon to stick in the farthest most rearward position? I could see it causing it to not return fully forward, but it does that once i hit the rear of the slide.

Been a rash of these problems the last few months. Not following the threads, so haven't seen a fix yet.

Good luck.

Maybe you should call S&W then if you don't believe it's the rsa.

Welcome to the club. The only explanation and solution I have seen is to lubricate as described on page 25 of the manual, especially figure 31, points 6 and 7. Fixed mine.

There have been numerous complaints of issues with recoil spring assembly. Some have lubed the spring assembly and hand racked the slide like 500-1,000x I replaced mine with the Stainless Guide Rod Inc captured guide rod. I do not use +P with this set up

Same here

I had this exact same problem with my new PC Shield today. This is my third M&P product . I am very disappointed in this Shield.

Update

I called S&W Service today and they told me to ship the gun back for service. They sent a shipping label as well. I explained what was going on and the technician sounded very familiar with the situation. For those who are experiencing a similar issue, I would suggest contacting the Service 800 number.

I just bought my PC ported 9 and only have 100 rounds in to it. I have not noticed this issue. I plan to go and put another 200+ rounds the next day or two, so I will keep an eye and see if mine does the same. I did already pre lube per the manual before I shot the first 100. Then got home and cleaned it and lubed everything again including the recoil spring.
