The darn extractor let go to-day while shooting at the range. I will not complain as I figure its the original part that was made in 1958 so its served me and who knows how many previous owners quite well in the past. Thankfully its a easy part to obtain and install from the look of it. In comparison it probably will outlast me in the long run and I am a few years older then this build date. About 21 years to be exact. I am sure glad I have my backup M46 in my carry case as its still working just fine. :)

You can order the new extractor from Brownells, it will be a little longer than the original and will take a little fitting. They changed the extractor in years past yours.
Good Luck.

Barrie, when you get your replacement part maybe you could take some pics of the install. That would be very helpful for others with older 41's who might face the same problem in days to come.

I will look up the details and see if I can do it. I suspect it may not all that big of a job I hope. If I find its a bugbear to do then I will let you know that I took into my local gunsmith who by chance is on holidays until the end of the month. Yes I will also try to take pics as well if I end up doing it myself as well. :)

This will help: Model 41 maintenance
Watch out for the spring which pushes out the extrator. Don't let it fly away. Perhaps disassemble the slide inside a clear plastic bag, so the spring and plunger will not fly away too far. If you have the bolt housing out anyway then clean the firing pin and firing pin tunnel as well. Remember: leave no oil or grease inside the FP tunnel, because this will collect rubish why will block or lock the firing pin.

Thank You very much for that advice also as that is extremely good to know. Inside a plastic bag is a great idea as it will save me from doing the 52 pickup style of dance looking for parts all over the place as well. Definitely understand about the lube part as well as that certainly makes a lot of sense as well. Leave it operating room sterile when closing it up for sure. I have seen the problem you mention in the past on other guns. You always get the best answers on this site which only shows how good the members really are. The best in my view.
