Brought another toy home-not a gun though

Yesterday I finally got my new project back home, my truck. I bought this truck almost two years back and it has taken me that long since I got hurt to keep the money together to get the work done on it. While it might not be alot to look at, and it needs a few things, it now has a rebuilt 390 V8 with a set of Hedman Headers and thrush glass packs. It also has new brakes, shocks and the rest of the exhaust which needs some turn outs and that will be finished up. I took the wife and son out for ice cream in it last night. I have to get a different thermostat (got a 190 degree but it heats up a little too much so I am going to get a 160 degree for it) and one headlight went out but none of that is too much to do. It actually rides and drives quite nice, the interior needs a thorough cleaning and as time goes on I will tinker with the outside. I hope to be able to drive it once or twice a week as I can because it is so much fun to drive and that 390 sounds like an animal with the exhaust on it.

Wow! I had a truck like that only it was light blue and white. '76 if I remember correctly with a 351 Cleveland. You are doing it right. Taking care of the mechanicals first is the most important part of the restoration. After you get the cosmetics taken care of, you will have something to be really proud of.

Gotta love them big block Fords! I had a 390 in my Tbird and that was definitely a highway star.

I'd leave the exterior alone, tune the engine to around 450 ponies, and start racing for pinks!

A few years ago I knew an older mechanic that had a truck that looked about like yours that had a posi traction rear end and a big block with all the goodies he could put in it. He told me he was going to stick a shovel, rake and broom in the standard holes in the bed and watch the kids try to outrun the trash man. Larry

My uncle had a 74 like that. It had that low 1st gear so you could put it in low range first, let out the clutch and hop out and walk beside it and toss hay bales on the back while it idled along. Then get back in at the end of the field and turn around and go back the other direction.
