BUDDY OF MINE SAYS MP SPORTER II AND SMITH & WESSON IS LOW QUALITY

When I pick up my Sport II in a few days, I am contemplating on buying a Gisslie trigger G2S in there, but now I am turning an entry level rifle into something more. I already bought a pretty pricey Magpul butt stock, what I am afraid is once i add up all the toys and bells and whistles, I could have bought a Daniel Defense...lol

Your post reminded me of something I've totally forgotten about and I should have disclosed: I put a Geissele trigger in my Sport. ROFL. So that group was done with a Geissele SSA-E trigger. Everything else is stock.

So maybe that little "tidbit" I totally spaced to report changes the impression of what the Sport can do out of the box. It still doesn't bother me to have put a great trigger in an entry level rifle. It's performing at a level I want for an overall price that was great.

I asked my dad one time, when I was about 6 or so, how come people always said that Studebaker cars were junk. He told me that they were just as good as any other car as long as you used and maintained it properly. It may have different designs here and there that the average Chevy or Ford owner don't understand, but that don't make it a bad car. Probably the same with firearms. Like my Colt Government .45 full size. You have to understand the effect that the profile on the front of the extractor has on ejection patterns. Needing adjustment don't make it junk. My 95 year old Colt runs perfectly, no adjustments at all. Never had any problems at all with any S&W product, my newest one is 49 years old. Your friend may be just a tad jealous?
Peace,
Gordon

Those of you on here that know me from my replies know that I like to pick on the Sport 2. Well, that's just it, I pick on it because it's a well made AR. I own a 5 year old Sport 1 and I have not altered it in any way! It shoots as good now as it did on day 1.
I also own a Ruger AR-556. This is what I have done to it since owning it from June 2016; replaced the BCG, replaced the rear sight, replaced the stock and hand guard, and if Ruger or some after market company doesn't come out with an aluminum or steel delta ring (currently polymer threaded type) I will be adding a Mil-Sped delta ring. Now, why did I replace all of those parts on my Ruger and nothing on my Sport 1? Because, the Sport 1 was good like it was and the Ruger needed to be brought up to proper standards.
I will say this as well, I own more S&W firearms than Rugers. But, at one time, I owned all Ruger firearms and not even 1 S&W.

You've got semis, revolvers and....

... long rifles of several types. A manufacturer might be better in one area than another. I have heard of some top manufacturers coming up with guns that some people like, but many hate. It kind of depends on what your expectations are at the time.

And what constitutes junk? If the finish defines quality then some Rugers revolvers are junk. I know that they make a plenty strong gun. Some of my old loading books have separate sections for Blackhawks and Contenders.

The only manufacturers I know to produce substandard are Taurus, Ruger, Century, and Hi Point Aside from that I think Smith and Wesson makes fine products

Please tell us about your personal experiences with the the above guns. Also, please tell us which models of each that you've owned.

What do you want to do with it?

S&W isn't junk by any means. But, configuration may be less than meets your needs. That doesn't make it "junk," although it may make it inadequate for the application.

I earned my Distinguished Rifleman badge shooting a rifle built around a Smith and Wesson M&P lower receiver. Granted the only thing "Smith and Wesson" about it was the receiver.

Hey, I know you from the NM forum! I didn't know you posted here.

Is this some sort of a joke thread?

Reason I ask is because I'm having a hard time figuring out a reason as to why it's even being taken seriously, much less being actually discussed on the Smith & Wesson Forum.

Someone's anonymous "buddy"...someone who doesn't even own any of the weapons he's denigrating...says Smith & Wessons are junk?

Really?

I have a Sport II that has operated flawless and very accurate out to 50 yards ( as far as I have shot it). Also, I have a Ruger 1911 5" and I think it is a great shooter! After several hundred rounds, no jams, FTF, just a well made 1911! Just my opinion.

I figured it out...

I figured out the OP's Buddies plan... he actually wants a S&W Sport and has started bad mouthing the OP's gun in hopes of getting it cheap.... very sneaky...

try not to confuse inexpensive with cheap... less money does not equal less quality... I have had the opportunity to spend lots of range time with both expensive and inexpensive weapons... for the most part the inexpensive ones are excellent bang for the bucks... I dislike range snobs...

Your buddy is the kind of guy that I would love to put my Sport up against his AR at the range, and "reeducate him".

He thinks the M1A Springfield... is the real deal.

Those rifles can be excellent. The military has adopted them for many roles and still use them I believe. But the AR has supplanted the old M1A and other rifles as the GI rifle of choice for all but the specialists. The specialists still sometimes use those M1A's or M14's as they call them.

That's not saying the AR is a bad design. It isn't. It's been developed really well over the years too. And the S&W version is a perfect example of a low price / high quality rifle. You can't get better than "works every time" and when you have one that shoots accurate what else is there? Maybe it won't survive a sandstorm or an avalanche but not many weapons will.

Your buddy has no idea what he's talking about and since he doesn't even own a AR he has zero credibility in my opinion. I honestly can't tell you how many thousands of rounds I have put through my M&P Sport and 9/10 times it has ran flawlessly. The few hang ups I have had with it have been minor and I chalked it up to bad ammo or it needed to be cleaned. I would put it up against my Colt or Daniel Defense any day..
