The 4" has the best balance. I have the 686 4,5,&6 inch barrel. I like them a lot.

Exclusives like these are usually done when a distributor contracts for a certain number of handguns and can then specify unique features, in this case a 5" barrel and unfluted cylinder. Exclusive means the product won't be listed on the S&W web site. The number required for this special run is typically 2500 or 5000 units.

Check with Bud's but I suspect you'll have to look for a used one or find a dealer that still has a few left. A few other dealers did have this product.

I though it was only 250 or more to get a special run done like RSR and them have done.

Ace sporting goods Washington PA. acefirearms.com They have brand new a 686+ 5" unfluted for around $659. It is mislabeled as a 686, but says 7 shot on the tag. Wish I had an extra $700. Just gave them a good bit for my JM625.

Actually a minimum special run is usually around 300, and can be less depending on the customer and how bad the factory needs work.
