Folks, I have a 629-4 Mt. Gun with a 5/8" light scratch on the sideplate. I can't feel it with a fingernail. What are your ideas out there for "buffing" it out? Thanks.

The stainless guns are very easy to buff out. You can use some Flitz polish, Blue Magic or even car scratch out polish made by Kit. These all work well and I'm sure that there are others. Bruce

I have used 1500 grit wet/dry sandpaper. It will give you a mirror shine if you don't take it easy.

as said above, they will work out quite easily really....gotta get the scratch out first, then blend in the surrounding area to "match"....

paper, polishes, buffing compounds, both powered ( wheels) as well as by hand, or even the 3 M scotch brite pads.........our favorite.

First you have to get the scratch out, and by the time that is done all that rubbing in one area is going to stand out big time, if you can feel it with your fingernail it's going to take some work, now you have to polish the whole gun to match and when your done it's going to look like nickel, I like shiny guns opposed to matte stainless, but that is my preferance, you may not like that, if you like the matte finish leave it alone. The white 3M pads work good for this or like said before 1500 grit, but keep it wet with wd40 while polishing. Just my 2 cents.

Try Flitz, Mothers, or any other stainless steel polish...

If you have a Dremel try that with the cloth bit. If you do not have a Dremel, go to Wal-Mart by the hand tool section and they seel the Dremel kit with attachment bits.

Word of advice - easy with the Dremel: less is more.
