Just sharing my thoughts on .22 bulk ammo. I've tried federal 550, winchester super-x, cci blazer and remington golden bullets. Out of 3 guns, a mp 15-22, gsg 1911 ad ops, and an issc m22, the best performance was from the federal and the cci blazer. these rounds were the most consistan in terms of cycling the action, firing and accuracy. Winchester super-x did okay, but had alot of duds and didnt always cylcle the slide. Remington golden bullets just werent working. Out of three guns it just wouldnt work. The rounds werent cycling the action or ejecting. does any body else have an opinon on .22 bulk ammo?

I have found Federal to work well out of both my Ruger 10 22 as well as my 15-22.

The round that has really impressed me the most in the 15-22 is CCI Tactical. It is super accurate and clean burning in my findings.

I also really like the CCI Stingers for more velocity and a little more "punch".

Rimfires are some strange birds aren't they?

It's a real trial and error type journey. Buy and test as many different types ammo as you see practical to see what works best for you and your gun, then load up!

God bless you all.

Remington golden bullets just werent working.

Wow, Smith & Wesson should put a warning in the 15-22 user's manual not to use them...

Federal bulk 550, 36gr "hollowpoint" from Wal-Mart is all I feed my 15-22 anymore. 10,869 rounds through it so far.

CCI Tactical are AWESOME... especially with the NEW 3.5lb trigger....

BUTT....... the price is a Bit Much for Plinking.....

that said......... in about , what, a Month..... and about 3000 rds in my wife and I's NEW TOY...... the FEDERAL VALUE or CHAMPIONS are my Value Round of Choice......:D

I do not believe with CCI or Federal I have had 1 Jamb.. Un-Fire or anything........

Now the Slide Fire is my NEW accessory.... and BIG test day is tomorrow and the Easter Bunny Apocalypse...... So Ill have MORE updates Soon.... LOL

The Golden bullets were acutally a friends that i just wanted to shoot a few because he didnt really have much left in the box. i think the cci blazer is the best for the money and dependability. for a box of 500 its 30$ at a good friends gun shop. The federal is 33$ at walmart.

I've heard alot of good things about the CCI Blazers also.

I've never tried them yet, but plan on doing so. Regarding Remington ammo, I find it disturbing that you can rotate and even "wobble" the bullet in its casing. Obviously this is not a good "crimp" and lends itself to many problems such as accuracy and reliability.

Remington Thunderbolts are the worst I have encountered.

Wolf Target Extra is a "superior" round for accuracy out of my Ruger 10-22 and is relatively inexpensive.

However, when shooting at 100 yards I find it disturbing that I can actually see the bullet "drop" across the view through my scope and impact the target.

This is where the CCI Stinger really shines in my book. A much flatter trajectory and very hard hitting for a 22 round. Maybe not the most accurate at times, but very satisfying.

And as far as reliable ammo goes the CCI Minimag is a "Gold Standard". If it feeds well in your rifle it's always a good choice. CCI ammo just gets it right!

Be safe out there and God bless.

The variation in ammo prices is unbelievable. Federal 550 is $18.97 in Va. where I live.

Nice. $19.97 in FL. Hard to beat and like many, it's what works well. Winchester was terrible for me. CCI did just as well as Federal bulk.

Remington Thunderbolt has been very unreliable for me. Especially in cold weather. It cycles the bolt on my Ruger .22's about 75 % of the time. In my S&W 10 shot 617 it fires 8 and sometimes 9 times out of 10. I have a lot of the Federal 550 boxes and find it functions pretty well. CCI has many types and all of it, while more expensive, has been excellent. I hunt with CCI and plink with the rest.

Another bulk choice of 22LR

Winchester M-22 is designed specifically for semi-auto style tactical guns. All the STATS. look good but I have not found a single review on it, or anyone who has given it a try. It is a black copper jacketed (washed), round nose,40 grain, 22LR round.I found it in PRO-BASS, 1000 rounds for$50.00! I was not willing to spend $50.00 without a reliable recommendation. Please let everyone know how it works if you have tried it!
CCI TACTICAL was specifically designed for the M&P15-22 and it gets good reviews. At $19.00 TO $24.00 for 375 rounds(bulk) it is a penny or two cheaper per round, then my favorite CCI MINI MAGS.
Hope this added to your education and keeps the info flowing! ERIC M&P15-22PC and M&P22

im lucky i guess because blazers work great in all my rimfires 6 rifles and 2 handguns--cheap and group the best for bulk ammo,i feel they are all pretty consistant and get my vote hands down-even work well in my slide fire stock

I have gone through almost 1000 rounds of the m-22 ammo and have not had a single issue. It is the only ammo that has been shot through my gun since i bought it new and would recommend it highly based on reliability.

Federal bulk pack all day ery day! Suprised to see no one liked the thunderbolts though, they seemed decent imo, and cheaper than CCI too. CCI just seems like too much for a 22, but then again I usually am shootin in the woods, not at 100yd ranges, so that could make a difference.

I dont shoot at paper targets that much, only time I do is to get the pistol or rifle sighted in. Once I get the pistol or rifle sighted in, I mainly shoot at steel or other plinking targets, so accuracy isnt that much of a big deal unless I'm going hunting. The main thing I look for in .22 ammo is quality and reliability.

As for those Golden Bullets, you get what you pay for. About 10% are golden duds. I'll stick with CCI Standard Velocity.

Who knew? S&W did...

M&P 15-22 manual:

Through our testing, Smith & Wesson has also found that there are several brands and types of .22LR ammunition that do not perform consistently or reliably. Consequently, Smith & Wesson DOES NOT RECOMMEND that the following brands or types of .22LR ammunition be used in your M&P15-22 rifle:

• Remington Golden Bullet • Remington Thunderbolt
• Remington Target 22 • Winchester Wildcat
• Any and all sub-sonic brands and types

CCI Blazers are 24.99 per 500 here and currently on sale for 19.99 per 500
