Bullets Rattling

I bought a new M&P 40 last weekend and really like the feel and looks of this pistol but haven't had a chance to shoot it yet...I loaded both 15 round magazines (which about wore out my thumb)..I have never had a double stack magazine pistol before but after loading both mags and giving them a good whack on the back to seat the bullets they rattle inside the mag...I removed 1 round down to 14 and again whacked the mags several times and the rattling would stop for a while but then come back which makes the gun sound like a metal bucket full of nuts and bolts...My question to you folks, is this normal and is there a way to prevent it? In all my other single stack 1911's and my 4506 the bullets are held firmly by the mag spring and don't rattle at all...Other than this annoying problem I like everything else about the pistol and it seems to have a nice trigger pull and sight picture...Any thoughts on the rattling would be appreciated...As always, thank you all....

2 out of my 3 mags rattle. I look at it as the same warning as racking a round in a Remington 870!

In my M&P 40, the mags rattle until I put them in the gun; then they are quiet. M&P 45 (FS) and 9mm (compact) are quiet in or out of the gun. The funny thing is that all the mags for my Sigma 40VE rattled until you put them in the gun as well. It has been my experience that some double stack mags rattle, but I have never seen it as a problem or a concern. A single stack will probably never rattle. As to the loading: get yourself a Maglula Uplula loader... you will never regret it.

Yes another vote for the Magula loader. Just bear in mind the springs will loosen up in the magazines over time which will make loading easier. I can load load mine to full capacity without the use of the loader. Congrats on the M&P 40.

I second the rattle. Brand new out of the package at 11 rounds. Ill assume its still normal, but Im semi unpleased since Ill have to carry these.
I wish there was a fix to this besides carrying 10 in a 15. :/

This is one of several reasons to disassemble, clean with silicone spray, wipe dry, and reassemble new mags before using.
Lets the internals settle better when you load. Check for burrs and rough spots while you have it apart.

Ill try that. I dont much tinker with guns a lot myself, but Im never afraid to try! I was going to exchange it, but maybe thats hasty since it IS new afterall. Thanks. Ill post my findings.
