Can't tell for sure…

But I think the OPs pics are 2 Reg mags I picked up at AMOSKEAG a while back. They have been displayed at the Symposium some time in the past. Not by me I should clarify.

They have sequential Reg #'s. Serials are separated by 4 digits. Possibly one of the OPs pics looks like a pic I might have posted.
Again assuming these are the same pair. I can't tell for sure. Pics kind of blurry on my end.

Shipped to Butte Montana
Butte was growing into a pretty tough town with the Anaconda mine contributing to a huge influx of men migrating to the town. Various institutions rising to meet their needs. Gambling, prostitution etc…
My Grandpa who grew up on Butte in the early thirties shared many stories of his youth there with me and my Cousins. His parents left for WA as soon as my Grandpa graduated HS.

Anaconda Mining Company had over a dozen mines as well as the smelter in Anaconda, a lumber mill in Bonner, outside Missoula but on the railroad and several other ventures. For many years they either ran the legislature or it was the State vs Butte. Home of the back room deals and Cousin Jack favoritism, it went hard and heavy until cheap Chilean copper shut it down in 1974. They are still mining today but it's a shadow of what it once was.

There was plenty of money in Butte, even in the depression years. People needed pennies and wire.

One of my early girlfriends was born in Butte, her family moved to Ogden, Utah when the house next door virtually disappeared one day sinking into the abyss of underground burrowing by the Anaconda Company and others searching for that elusive vein.
I would have loved to have seen that chimney come down, I remember seeing the chimney well before Butte came into view from the highway back in the 60's.

Not too familiar with Butte but I have some history with Bisbee AZ. We lived about 20 miles from there in the 60's. The mine closed and it became serious hard times for everyone. My family moved away it was so bad. The town is a tourist attraction these days but areas around it are still depressed.

Butte is just another mining town. You would be wise to avoid it if you're driving through. ;)

If you have time, stop in and take some of the mining tours, great stuff.

Such a historic town and great hiking. When we were then in November they were shooting 1923.

The chimney or "Stack" is now a State Park in Anaconda.
