The C-133 is a forgotten type for some reason. A lot of early 50s/60s transports are, like the British Blackburn Beverly and the Short Belfast.

So 133 is just an upgraded 130? We flew on 123s and 130s in Vietnam but mostly S-*# hooks and Slicks.
Not an upgrade, developed separately to carry longer items like rockets. Poor design, suffered from weak wings. Several fell out of the air. Both planes entered service about the same time, the C-113 remaining until the early '70s.

i got out of basic in 62. sent to dover afb, home of c-133 and c-124. this is the first time i'v seen ether one ever mentioned. i thought they were lost and forgotten. i loaded many of them both and even a c-124 in nam in 64. old memories, thanks.

Oniy 50 built, reported to provide excellent one of a kind capability when in service.
Apparently it was flown to the airframe limit.
Online say this-
By 1971, shortly before the introduction of the Lockheed C-5 Galaxy, the Cargomaster was obsolete as well as being worn out, and all were withdrawn from service. The C-133 had a 10,000-hour airframe that was life-extended to 19,000 hours. Severe vibration caused critical stress corrosion of the airframes to the point that the aircraft were beyond economical operation.
I’ve seen the one at the Pima.

I remember seeing them at Hill AFB in Utah. I was told they were used for transporting Minuteman missile parts.

I rode a C-124 to Greenland in 1960. Slab-sided noise box with NO insulation in the walls to keep out the cold. That was a long, miserable trip.
