Can we discuss Customizing Smith revolvers... the long and short of it...

At one point people felt the same way about triple locks and registered magnums.

Today's average gun is tomorrow's treasure.

One never knows what will be 'hot" twenty or more years down the road.... as I mentioned above I've got three 3" 66s.

In the mid-80s there were a number of articles in the "GunRags" about the short run of 3" 66-2 made for Ashland and how they represented the perfect concealed carry revolver.......... never saw one for sale.

Fast forward 3 or 4 years and a local gunsmith (doing work on my 2 1/2" 19) told me he could get me a 3 " 66. Over the next year I bought two (1988 or 89).

At that time they couldn't give these 6 shot revolvers away..... they along with a few more had been sitting on a Distributor's (near Harrisburg Pa.) shelf for over a year. At time everyone wanted a Wonder-9 15 shot semi-auto. Given the movies Lethal Weapon and Die Hard folks were clamoring for Beretta 92s.

Today 3" 66s (-2 to-4) are selling for as much as $1500 while used Beretta 92s are $400 guns.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was trying to say but took a heck of a lot longer to say it. Thank you. Or at least one of the points I was trying to make. LOL.

The 696 is another good example. When they first came out a little over 20 years ago nobody was buying them (except me). When the shooting public finally did discover them the price went through the roof. This was after they were discontinued of course.
Mine isn't going anywhere.
