Cannot recommend M&P pistols right now

I love it when folks quit trying to be funny and just weigh in on a fellows concern. Good answers.

You're not the first to voice concerns about the magazine shortage. Right now, the only mags that are hard to come by are the full size 10 round 9mm. I have been able to find almost all of the other calibers and sizes.

So, just buy a couple of 17 round mags and be happy. They have been seen at 44Mag.com and Brownell's. I'm sure there are other places. Unfortunately for me, I'm limited to the 10 round mags.

By the way, if anyone has one they're willing to part with, I'm in the market. ;)

Lost mags in a match? Really?

Oh, wait, what you meant is that yours will get confused with some other shooter's mags?

Mark your floor plates with a silver colored sharpie (you need to number your mags anyway, so you can accurately track any malfunctions to a particular magazine).

And, for goodness' sake, order a few extra from Midway or somewhere else, and wait, like everyone else.

Since the OP left the building, all this post did is add to my count as the OP is certainly not around to take the advice we are all giving him.

Oh well.

I like to shoot my M&P 9L for IDPA and USPSA matches, but extra mags are completely unavailable. I am afraid to even drop my mags at slide lock for fear of losing them! It seems as if S&W is uninterested in addressing this problem...I've not seen any attempt to ramp up production or even to officially acknowledge the shortage. As such, I cannot currently recommend these guns.

They are running at capacity. Sorry you're bummed. Doesn't diminish the pistol or its desirability.

Since I have many other pistols, I don't see it as a problem. However, if I were looking into buying my first pistol, I would probably buy something that had mags available in stock.

I like having at least 6 mags for each pistol, but am willing to wait months in order to avoid paying $50 for new mags.

7 round shield mags haven't been a problem.....BUT.....try finding a Sig P220 mag in .45 under 60 bucks that isn't a pro-mag.....:(

Hell,I remember 17 rd Glock 17 magazines were damn near impossible to find until one day a huge bulk shipment arrived at the LGS.
Be patient.They will pop up.:)

I just ordered 5, and found them before I even opened this thread. Hell, the 10-8 base pads I "need" are going to run me more than the mags lol

OP, deals are out there... if magazine availability is a reason to "not recommend" a firearm, there are plenty of excellent firearms that would be off of the list.

Thats like saying, I dont recommend XYZ firearm because using it will lessen it's resale value :scratches head:

I have 10 15-round mags between my two 40's now and plan to buy 10 more when ever I find some. I hate to say this, but I am the guy that will buy them all when I see them. I have just began shooting some small events at the local club, and like to have mags full and ready to go.

Okay, I amended my original post

Okay, I've amended my post. I really love my M&P, and I prefer to use it for my matches. Guess I shouldn't fire off new threads right after an unsuccessful search for mags. I still think if I were S&W I wouldn't give exclusive contracts for parts production.
