The reading comprehension skills shown by members here are just astounding.
The lack of understanding of how a free market works by the OP is even more outstanding, and your complaints should be added to the list of First World Problems. Is the cord too short on your iPhone charger also?
If you truly think that S&W is letting you down, feel free to sell you gear and move onto the next brand you feel suits your needs. Find a platform which has been out a while and has a better supply situation. The 1911 platform comes to mind. Your Mec-Gar mag offerings you posted yesterday are weak support for your argument. All those platforms have been out for some time now and currently have nominal demand relative to the M&P.
Rewind to 1994, when the AWB was looming and Glocks were out about the same amount of time M&P's are now. $100 mags was not uncommon for these guns (remember that was also 20 years ago, like $160 today). Granted, a ban was enacted then and nothing is on the horizon now. However the shooting community has been conditioned somewhat by the political roller coaster we've experienced this last two decades, and this last go-around has hit us it particularly hard. Things are coming back, albeit more slowly than many would like to see.
I've been through this kind of scenario several times in the last 20+ years, and every time it's the same: demand increases, supply decreases, prices go up, sellers take advantage of that, and the recent buyers or fence-sitters that finally decided to buy are up in arms that stuff is not available or prices are double or triple what they are used to seeing. Folks can complain all they want but that is not going to change the supply situation.
If I've learned anything after living through times like this it's this: 1) Have patience, things will come back; 2) When things calm down and something's available at a good price, buy it, you can always use it some day or sell and at least get your money out of it; 3) Sellers take advantage of increased demand and higher prices. Whether you agree with the last part or not, keep in mind in the grand scheme of things that we don't absolutely need this stuff, given the current climate it's not like we are talking food or water or insulin or anything. Why should someone sell me something for $20 when someone else is willing to pay $50 for the same item? It makes no difference whether or not you agree with what others are willing to pay.
The $99 17-rd mags that 44mag.com that sold out in a short period of time is a classic example. There are those willing to spend that much so why should he offer them at MSRP? I bought stuff at 44mag.com and if I agree to pay the asking price I will continue to do so. A couple years ago he had them for way less that S&W's retail price and I added a few to the order I was making. I didn't need them at the time and in fact they are still in the package. And no they are not for sale, though I'm sure there some out there that will consider me a greedy b-----d for having mags that I'm not using and won't let go for $25.
Have there been times when I've been frustrated because I was unable to get something or asking prices were high? Absolutely. But not so much if I'm not dead in the water. In any case you make do with what you have until things improve.
