can't find a shield

I am looking for a Shield in 9mm and can't seem to find one anywhere. Is S&W so far behind in production that they aren't available right now? I called every local dealer in my area and none of them have any. One of them even laughed at me and said he has been requesting two of them since July and hasn't received them yet. He also told me that he spoke with his S&W representative and the rep told him that no more Shields would be made available to dealers until at least May of 2013. I don't know how credible that is, but they sure are hard to find now. I even tried contacting an online dealer to see if they had an idea of how long it would be before they had any in stock and just got a voice mail that said "We are experiencing high call volumes right now. Please try back later" and then disconnected me. Does anyone know of any dealers that might have these in stock, or are they as mythical as unicorns right now?

hang in there amigo........i'm sure you'll find one someday. they are already very popular, and the re-election run on firearms is just making finding one more difficult

You can get them all day long on Gunbroker. If you want to pay $600+ for one! I've been looking for one also, but I refuse to pay almost $200 over suggested retail. I'll either go without until I find one at a reasonable price or I'll run out of patience and buy a M&P9C.

There is you a whole pile of them but there way over priced. Depends on how bad you want one. I just got a new 40 shield by luck.

I went with the 9c since I already have the FS 9. I could use the FS magazines in the 9C if needed.

Some of those guns on GunBroker at the high starting bids go without getting any bids and get re-listed. You could try what I did. I found the contact information for one of the listers who is in my home state and found out he had a second Shield that he hadn't listed yet and I made an offer, which he accepted. It helped that the auction for the one that was listed expired with no bids, and was re-listed. Affter he agreed to sell me one, the listed Shield started getting bids and went for $ 65 more than I paid. There are deals to be made, but you won't find out unless you try. I paid $ 20 over list. Maybe that's over your limit, but I was willing to do it.

My LGS is asking $550 for a Shield 9 they haven't even received yet.

Yeah, I think this panic over AWB/HCMB (high cap. mag ban) has given everybody a temporary greed fever. The prices being asked, and paid, for gun-related items has gotten crazy. Even people you would expect to hold steady are being tempted to "cash in".

I hope there is a return to sanity, soon!

And the stampede to rush into legislation . . . The "Ban all guns" crazies are not just confined to Illinois, New York, or Maryland -- somehow the train they're riding must be stopped, before some really short-sighted laws are passed.

My LGS has gotten in and sold 62 9mm shields since Thanksgiving.

He has an order in right now for 40 more and expects them by mid-month. All are sold.

It took me a few months to get one at a good price from Academy. You have to be persistent - find out when the trucks come in and call them right before they open to ask if any came in. When one does come in, ask them to hold it for you - they will usually hold it until the end of that day. Your other option is to pay an inflated price online or at the LGS - which I refused to do.

I actually called S&W about a month ago for something else, then got on to the topic of Shields. I was told that they're producing 24/7 but just can't keep up with demand. Every Shield being produced at the moment is strictly to fulfill backorders...nothing is being made for stock. I just got tired of the waiting and picked up the lone 9mm Shield at a gun show in Texas, but it came at a premium. I'm still on several wait lists for another since the missus also wants one.

I was lucky to be in the right place at the rite time. Decided to hit one of the LGS that I hadn't called already. Huge crowds, but was finally able get someone's attention and asked if they had a Shield 40 fully expecting to be laughed at. He reached straight down and pulled one out. Told him sold!

Finally made it to the range today - nice compact package. A bit low and to the left... but that is likely me. The mag seems a bit loose, but didn't have a drop as others have reported.

It will be tough handing this one over the my wife...
