I'll say it if anyone here wants to hear it or not. Hi Points are OK for what they are. I've had 2 and they go bang, cycle and go bang again and hit the target if the shooter does his/her part.
 
If it works it works. My first double stack gun was a Ruger P89. People still tell me it's a ***, and poke fun at me about it. It is accurate and has never had a stoppage or malfunction in thousands of rounds of shooting cheap range ammo. It is also the smoothest shooting 9mm I've come across. It's ugly and bulky, but is primarily a range gun, and has served its purpose well.

There are a lot of elitists out there. Buy what you can afford and shoot it well. I'd avoid Jimenez, Cobra, Jennings, and other such brands as they have poor long term durablity and are questionable out of the box.

Man, that P89 is so big and heavy. I think that is why it is so reliable. They are way too big for my hands.....but that is my problem. If you like and it works for you then it is a perfect gun. Enjoy the next few thousand rounds through it.

I once had a Helwan 9mm (Egyptian copy of a Beretta 1951). Mechanically, it was terrible. I loved it!
 
still would buy a hi point 45 to carry. heavy? yep ugly? yep reliable? absolutely. have friends that shoot them in action pistol. they do fine despite the ridicule of others. yes they are not expensive. A Kimber? no way. but they do work no matter what you do to them.
 
Easy, Guys. At least a Hi Point IS a firearm, so while a lot don't like them, the individual is at least a Firearms Owner, and deserving of our respect as such.
Now, I am not crazy about Hi Points either, but I haven't had to repair one, yet. They work, and are accurate. And seem to be very tough, in the long run.
PClamb: An SD9VE is a fine fighting firearm. Don't let the naysayers and unintelligent tell you otherwise.
I have carried a SD9VE into harms way on several occasion with no problems and full confidence.
And contrary to what the uninformed will tell you, the SD series IS NOT the same pistol as the notorious SW(And those work fine, too. Just stiff triggers is all.)
The 2 pistols share a lot of common parts, but the new SD has a much more improved trigger pull, due to improved lockwork. Heck, the magazines are the same, save for a different base pad shape.
Carry and shoot the Sd with confidence, it won't let you down.

I have a HI point 40 cal carbine. Good reliable accurate rugged little shooter. Not a fan of their handguns per say but they do go bang.
 
my girlfriend has a hi point c9. i have a SD40ve. my girfriends brother has a hi point .45....

after shooting all 3 i still feel my SD40ve is far superior. the hipoints jam when i use JHP ammo. my sd shoots like a champ going bang every time. the ergonomics feel better to me, the hi points seem awkward to hold and point. id take mt SD over a hipoint any day. its become my main carry pistol.

If you are referring to my post where I said I had the original SD9 and it's about the same as the SDVE, I certainly did not mean the Sigma. The original SD9 was all black with a melonite coated slide and metal M&P sights.
 
So I take it they stopped making the original SD's then? I didn't see them on the website.
 
Hey, JL. No, not at all. I hade an original SD and found it to be a quality firearm. The SDVE's are the same gun, save for some minor differences, i.e., finish, sights. I love them. Light, easy to use, won't rust, etc.
My comment to PClamb was in reference to all the Gun Shop "Experts" that tell everyone how bad the SD is, just like it's ealier brother, the SIGMA, when they really don't have any working knowledge of that S&W pistol genre', in general. I do, I was there(w/ apologies to E. Keith!) when S&W debued the SIGMA. That was a diasaster that has just not died out yet. And the SIGMA evolution known as the SW VE series are still damn good pistols, albeit with stiff triggers. Which can be addressed w/o altering any lock work. I just wanted him to know that he has a world class fighting pistol, regardless of what the unintelligent "experts" tell him. The "Un-cognisetti", if you will...lol!

Gotcha. I agree. I regret getting rid of mine, especially since you can't get the black ones anymore.

opinions are like buttholes, everyone has one.

opinions from the internet were the main reason i started checking out the SD VE line. after shooting a rental at the range i wanted to buy one and did that same day. had i not read into the sd so much and read peoples opinions on them. i would have got another glock. dont undervalue what people have to say, most will give an honest opinion

btw wont be shooting on weekends for next 2 weekends, last weekend was opening season for firearm deer :)
 
Just put another 250 through my sd 40ve and no jams. Fail to fires or half loaded rounds :-) smooth as butter. Also loom into the hogue grip for these bad boys. Now it fits like a glove :-)

You know, i go out every weekend and fire 500-1000rnds through my SD9VE and as long as its lubed on its rails around the halfway mark i get no problems, well that depends on if the ammo Im using is dependable

I got my SD9VE a couple weeks ago, Ive only put 90 rounds through it and Ive had no issues whatso ever.
